Ko wai mātou | About Us

Nau mai, haere mai ki Te Kura

At Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura), our ākonga are always at the centre of what we do. For more than a century, we've supported learners across Aotearoa — evolving from lessons once delivered on horseback to today's future focused learning that can be done anywhere, anytime.

Ākonga at Te Kura choose subjects based on their passions and interests, accessing learning online supported by kaiako who guide, inspire, and drive engagement. Alongside this, kaiako provide pastoral care and connect with ākonga through regular huinga ako — online or face to face — where learners connect, receive guidance, and strengthen their sense of belonging.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this position

We are looking for a proactive and data-informed leader to take responsibility for assessment and learner tracking within the Accelerated Literacy and Numeracy programme. This role is central to ensuring that assessment practices drive meaningful learning outcomes and support continuous improvement.

As Assessment Lead, you will:

  • Lead the design and implementation of assessment processes, including the use of standardised testing tools to measure ākonga progress.
  • Provide strategic oversight of learner data, ensuring accurate tracking, analysis, and reporting to inform teaching and programme development.
  • Collaborate closely with the Programme Lead to align assessment insights with programme goals and learner pathways.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure assessment information is shared in ways that support learner success.
  • Support kaiako in interpreting data and using it to inform responsive teaching practices.
  • Work in partnership with National Leaders of Learning and Kaiako Matua Literacy and Numeracy to strengthen formative and summative assessment practices to inform intervention approaches.
  • Contribute to reporting cycles, providing evidence-based insights that support curriculum development and decision-making.

This role requires a leader who is confident with data, committed to equity, and passionate about using assessment to empower learners and educators.
