Do you enjoy pulling things apart, finding the root cause of a problem and getting technology working as it should?We’re looking for a hands-on Service Technician to join the eShepherd team in Hamilton. You’ll diagnose, test and refurbish connected electronic products while helping our customers, partners and internal teams resolve technical issues quickly and effectively.
eShepherd is Gallagher’s virtual fencing platform for cattle. Using solar-powered, GPS-enabled neckbands connected to web and mobile applications, our technology allows farmers to create and manage virtual grazing boundaries without relying solely on physical fencing.This is a varied technical role where you’ll work across electronics, firmware, IoT systems and customer support. You’ll be close to the technology, the teams developing it and the customers using it in real farming environments.
What you’ll be doing
Working closely with Customer Success, R&D, Operations and our Specialist Partners, you’ll take ownership of technical issues from initial diagnosis through to resolution.Your responsibilities will include:
- Assessing and prioritising returned eShepherd products
- Diagnosing electronic equipment to component level
- Using multimeters, oscilloscopes and test equipment to isolate faults
- Refurbishing and testing returned products before they are returned to stock
- Investigating warranty issues and recording findings and failure trends
- Applying and validating firmware updates on outgoing products
- Running hardware, firmware and software tests
- Reproducing customer issues and providing clear technical explanations
- Supporting Customer Success with technical enquiries
- Providing technical guidance and training to Specialist Partners
- Documenting solutions, service notes and troubleshooting procedures
- Sharing recurring faults and field insights with R&D and Operations
- Improving service processes, diagnostic tools and testing workflows
What you’ll bringYou’re technically curious, practical and calm under pressure. You enjoy working through problems logically and take pride in delivering a reliable solution.Ideally, you’ll bring:- A relevant electronics, electrical or IT qualification, or equivalent experience
- Experience diagnosing electronic equipment
- Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills
- Confidence using electronic test equipment
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Strong organisation and attention to detail
- The ability to manage competing priorities
- Confidence writing technical or service documentation
- A proactive approach and ownership of your work
- The ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams
Experience with connected devices, IoT products, firmware updates, CRM systems or inventory platforms such as SAP would be an advantage.Don’t meet every requirement?
