About the job
We’re looking for motivated graduates to join our Auckland team as Sales & Underwriting Consultants, where you’ll build practical experience across customer service, sales and underwriting while developing a strong foundation for a career in insurance.
This is more than a first job. You’ll have the opportunity to learn the insurance business from the ground up, take on real responsibility and develop valuable skills in customer relationships, problem solving and risk assessment, all while being supported to learn, grow and explore where your career could take you.
This role is set to start on the 18th of January 2027.
What you’ll be doing
As a Sales & Underwriting Consultant, you’ll be a key point of contact for customers and brokers across New Zealand, supporting them by phone and email.
You’ll:
- Help customers with quotes, policy changes, renewals and general enquiries.
- Provide timely, professional and empathetic service.
- Respond to customer and broker questions, finding the right solutions for their needs.
- Build strong relationships with customers, brokers and your wider team.
- Manage customer complaints in line with the Suncorp NZ framework.
- Develop your knowledge of insurance products, risk and underwriting.
- Build transferable skills and experience to support your future career within insurance.
Your learning and development
You don’t need to come to us with insurance experience. We’ll help you build it.
You’ll receive comprehensive training across customer service, sales and underwriting, learning how to assess risk and provide insurance solutions across homes, contents and vehicles. Your first four weeks will consist of fully paid, in-office training, giving you the opportunity to learn alongside your graduate cohort and build confidence before putting your new skills into practice.
The role is 37.5 hours per week across a six-day Monday to Saturday window, with rosters published one month in advance to help you plan life outside of work.
What you’ll bring
We’re interested in your potential; not how much insurance experience you already have. We’re looking for graduates who are curious, motivated and ready to learn.
Ideally, you’ll have:
- Recently completed, or be currently completing, at least a bachelor’s degree from an Australian or New Zealand University in Business Management, Business Administration, Commerce, Arts, Humanities, Law or Communication.
- A genuine interest in developing a career in insurance.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- A customer-focused mindset and genuine desire to help people.
- Strong attention to detail and digital literacy.
- Resilience and the ability to adapt to new situations.
- A growth mindset and enthusiasm for learning new skills.
- The ability to collaborate and contribute positively within a team.
Why join us?
At Suncorp New Zealand, we want your first career move to be somewhere you can learn, contribute and grow.
We offer:
- Free life, salary continuance and trauma insurance cover.
- Discounts on Vero and Southern Cross medical insurance.
- Flexible leave of up to four additional days per year.
- Flexible work arrangements supporting a healthy work-life balance.
- $250 annually towards a gym membership or hobbies.
- Ongoing learning and development opportunities.
- The opportunity to join our employee share plan.
- A positive and inclusive team environment where individuality is celebrated.
- Opportunities for career development and internal mobility.
