Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible and innovative care.

About the Role

As Principal Advisor - Maintenance, you will play a key national role in supporting the development, implementation and continuous improvement of maintenance strategies, standards, frameworks and improvement initiatives which help deliver the National Maintenance Strategy and its key actions across Health New Zealand. You will provide expert advice that helps improve maintenance performance, asset reliability, service continuity and long-term infrastructure outcomes.

Working closely with regional infrastructure teams, asset owners, engineering specialists and service providers, you will analyse performance data, identify opportunities for improvement, support evidence-based decision making and contribute to nationally consistent maintenance practices.

This role offers the opportunity to work across a diverse and complex infrastructure portfolio, helping to strengthen maintenance capability, improve asset performance and support resilient healthcare environments nationwide.

About the Team/Service/Location

You'll join the national Infrastructure Asset Management team in the Infrastructure and Investment Group (IIG). Our team sets the national direction for how Health NZ maintains its buildings, plant and infrastructure, so facilities stay safe, compliant and fit for purpose. We work closely with our four regional infrastructure teams, who deliver maintenance on the ground, and we provide the standards, data, advice and assurance to help them do that well.

About you

You are a strategic and technically credible maintenance, engineering or asset management professional who combines strong analytical thinking with the ability to influence, collaborate and build trusted relationships.

You are comfortable working with complex technical information and translating it into practical insights that support organisational decision making. You bring a continuous improvement mindset and enjoy identifying opportunities to improve performance, reliability and service outcomes across large and complex environments.

You thrive on collaborating with others, building trusted relationships and contributing to projects that have organisation-wide impact, supporting infrastructure improvements that enable better health outcomes for New Zealanders.

You will bring

  • A relevant postgraduate qualification in Engineering, Asset Management, Facilities Management, Infrastructure Management, Maintenance Management or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience in maintenance strategy, engineering services, asset management, facilities management or infrastructure management within a complex organisation.
  • Experience developing and implementing maintenance frameworks, standards, strategies or improvement initiatives across multiple sites or regions.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyse technical information and provide clear, evidence-based advice to senior leaders and stakeholders.
  • Experience developing reports, business cases, performance insights or assurance documentation.
  • Strong relationship management, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into clear business outcomes.
