About the job
About Us
Fire Security Services (FSS) is a market leader for fire protection and building compliance services across New Zealand. The fire protection industry may not sound the most glamorous of industries, but actually…it’s a great industry to work in. Providing fire protection services is about life safety, so not only do you get to work in an environment where you’re doing good things for your fellow Kiwis, but you also get to work with a pretty passionate bunch of people. That is what makes FSS a great place to work!
Currently, we’re hiring to support a period of significant growth and require an additional Key Account Manager based in Auckland.
The Role
This is an opportunity to take ownership of some of FSS' most important customer relationships while also growing a portfolio of strategically important Auckland accounts.
You will report to the Chief Commercial Officer and have a high degree of autonomy, supported by a strong national team. You'll manage a diverse portfolio - from established national relationships through to emerging Auckland accounts with significant growth potential.
This isn't a 'look after the accounts' role. You'll be expected to protect and grow existing revenue, identify new opportunities, increase FSS's share of wallet and lead significant commercial opportunities.
Core responsibilities are to:
- Own and grow a portfolio of local and national key accounts, with a clear focus on retention, growth and long-term commercial value.
- Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders and develop a strong understanding of each customer's business, objectives, risks and opportunities.
- Develop practical account strategies that translate customer needs and opportunities into measurable outcomes.
- Identify and lead significant sales opportunities, tenders and commercial negotiations, working with the right internal stakeholders.
- Work closely with Branch Managers and operational teams to ensure contractual commitments, customer expectations and service requirements are delivered.
- Proactively manage customer risks, resolve issues and ensure FSS remains a valued long-term partner.
What we're looking for
We are looking for an experienced commercial operator who enjoys building genuine partnerships, solving customer problems and finding opportunities to grow the relationship. We’re looking for a motivated, confident professional, who can demonstrate:
- Strong B2B sales and/or key account management experience, with a proven track record of growing and retaining customer portfolios.
- Strong commercial capability, including negotiation, pricing and identifying growth opportunities.
- Excellent relationship-building and influencing skills across multiple levels.
- The ability to work autonomously, prioritise effectively and manage a complex customer portfolio.
- Strong planning, organisation and time management skills.
- Strong CRM capability and discipline.
The following would be advantageous:
- Experience with complex, multi-site or national customers.
- Experience in a service-based business where ongoing delivery and customer retention are critical.
- Experience in fire protection, building compliance, facilities management or a related industry.
- Experience with tendering and significant B2B proposals.
What We Offer
- A fantastic opportunity to join a great team who are one of the market leaders in the fire protection industry.
- Competitive salary and fully maintained company vehicle.
- Training to ensure you understand the services we provide. It can be a little technical at times, but you will have our full support.
- Life is busy - we get it.
- You get to make a difference by keeping your fellow Kiwis safe.
- A challenge - this is no cruisy wicket and not for the faint hearted.
- A great workplace culture and no corporate lingo and red tape to contend with.
