About the job

Hynds is looking for a technically strong, commercially minded Business Development Engineer to grow our Trenchless (including Tunnelling) and Specialist Pipe Systems business. As a key member of the Engineered Products Team, you will be the go-to technical expert for engineering consultants, civil contractors, councils, and asset owners.

You’ll get involved early in the projects shaping New Zealand’s water infrastructure and help turn them into profitable growth. You’ll also give technical support across our wider pipeline range, from trenchless to traditional open cut. If you know the water sector, enjoy solving technical problems and like building long-term relationships, we’d love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Grow sales of Trenchless, Tunnelling and Specialist Pipe Systems in existing and new markets
  • Find and follow projects from early design through to installation, working with the right people at each stage
  • Build strong relationships with consultants, contractors, Territorial Authorities, and asset owners
  • Be the technical expert for the category, supporting customers, our branch network and the wider market
  • Develop engineered solutions with our internal teams, making sure they’re designed, quoted, and costed accurately
  • Deliver product training to customers and branches, working alongside our suppliers
  • Manage your sales pipeline and customer activity through our CRM
  • Represent Hynds at trade shows, industry events, and industry groups

What You’ll Bring:

  • 3–5 years’ experience in civil infrastructure, ideally in the water sector
  • Technical knowledge of pipeline products, systems, and installation methods (trenchless experience is highly regarded)
  • A strong understanding of the civil market: its drivers, its stakeholders, and the language it uses
  • Commercial sense and a drive to win, with the ability to influence outcomes and own the results
  • Excellent customer service, professionalism, and attention to detail
  • A collaborative, team-first approach
  • A tertiary qualification in engineering or a related field is beneficial but not essential

Benefits:

  • Company vehicle
  • Performance-Based Incentive (PBI)
  • Health insurance (subject to eligibility criteria)
  • Access to company partner discounts
  • Employee Assistance Programme
