Dear Mark,

I'd like to apply for the Leading Hand role on your night shift. I have seven years in distribution centres, and at Rimu Freight in Wiri I pick around 180 lines an hour on the RF scanner, with pick accuracy above 99.8% over the past year.

A leading hand has to keep the shift accurate and safe as well as fast, and that is how I work. I drive reach trucks to put away inbound stock at height, clearing up to six containers a shift, and I check and load outbound trucks for next-day delivery, with no mis-loads reported in my area since 2023. I also train new starters on scanning and safe pedestrian routes during their first week.

Before Rimu Freight I spent three years at Tawa Logistics in East Tāmaki, picking and packing online orders through peak seasons at about three times normal volume, receiving deliveries against purchase orders and helping run quarterly cycle counts that brought stock variances down over two years. Training new starters has shown me I like helping a team get it right, and I'm ready to take that further.

I hold a full Class 1 licence with an F endorsement and drive both counterbalance and reach forklifts. I can work days, nights and weekends, and I'd be glad to come in and talk about the role.

Common mistakes

What gets warehouse worker letters skipped.

  • Calling yourself hard-working without any numbers.

    Give your pick rate, accuracy or containers cleared a shift. Warehouses measure everything, so show them the figures.

  • Not saying which forklifts you can drive.

    Name the types, like counterbalance or reach truck, and say you hold an F endorsement.

  • Leaving out safety.

    Mention your safety record or how you train others on safe routes. Managers are responsible for everyone on the floor.

  • Not stating which shifts you can work.

    Say whether you can do days, nights and weekends. Many warehouses run around the clock.
