Join Hutt City Council and help keep our city moving safely by coordinating traffic management across the local road network and preparing for the unexpected.
About the role
In this role, you’ll help keep Lower Hutt’s road network safe and moving by providing traffic management advice and direction to Council teams, contractors and other organisations. You’ll review, approve and audit temporary traffic management plans, support compliance with the New Zealand Guide to Temporary Traffic Management, and address non-compliance when needed. Working with the Corridor Manager, you’ll help prioritise work across the network and build effective relationships with stakeholders.
You’ll also help prepare the transport network for emergencies such as floods, slips and severe weather. This includes supporting network risk assessments, maintaining information about vulnerable assets and emergency procedures, and working with Council teams and response partners. You’ll take part in emergency training and exercises, helping build the capability to support the transport response when events occur.
About you
- You understand the New Zealand Guide to Temporary Traffic Management and are committed to keeping your technical knowledge current through training and professional development.
- You’re organised and adaptable, able to manage changing priorities and deadlines.
- You communicate clearly and confidently and can build positive working relationships with a wide range of people.
- You hold a current full New Zealand driver’s licence.
- Experience reviewing or auditing traffic management plans, risk assessment training, emergency management or local government experience, AutoCAD skills, or a relevant qualification would be an advantage.
