Mō te tūranga | About the role The Department of Conservation have recently made some big changes to help our people and operations work better together-so we can achieve the conservation outcomes we're aiming for. As a Site Support Officer, you will report to the Operations Advisor and play a key role in providing essential administrative and site support to ensure DOC facilities across the district run smoothly, safely, and efficiently. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is a self-starter, enjoys taking initiative, and is comfortable adapting to new technologies and ways of working. You'll be supported by an experienced team who will provide on-site guidance and support as you establish yourself in the role.
Initially, there will be a strong focus on setting up and refining site support processes, making this an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys creating structure, solving problems, and finding practical ways to improve how things are done. This role is key to creating a safe, well-functioning environment so our team can focus on delivering conservation outcomes. The position will be focussed on:
- Working closely with the Site Lead to support the day-to-day running of DOC premises, acting as the main point of contact for site and facility matters.
- Providing general office management support and being the go-to person for site-based queries.
- Coordinating the upkeep of DOC pool vehicles to ensure they are fit for purpose, including servicing and WOF requirements.
- Supporting key health and safety activities, including inductions, safety and fire drills, regular checks, and ACC audits.
- Assisting with the development and implementation of site support processes and systems to help improve consistency and efficiency across the region.
Please note: This role is a 0.5FTE position. Days/ Hours to be negotiated between hiring manager and the successful candidate.

- Experience developing, implementing, or improving administrative processes and systems
- Confidence working independently, taking initiative, and identifying solutions with minimal supervision
- Experience coordinating contractors, suppliers, or service providers
- Experience in a broad administration support, facility or fleet management role
- Experience in general office management, including record-keeping, scheduling, and supporting day-to-day operations.
- A detail-oriented problem solver with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities with ease
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work with a range of internal and external stakeholders
- Tech-savvy and an early adopter of new systems and technologies
- Ability to coordinate tasks and follow through on site-related issues to completion
- You bring a proactive approach and a continuous improvement mindset, always looking for more efficient ways to get things done
- An understanding of workplace health and safety practices (or willingness to learn)
- New Zealand full drivers' licence
