About the Role
As a Rostering Coordinator, you be part of our centralised rostering service based at Waikato Hospital. You would be joining a friendly and supportive team, who play a critical role in supporting our operations across the Waikato District.
Working with clinical managers, you will create rosters for frontline nursing and midwifery clinical services. You will provide expertise across other services, developing effective rostering tools and practices. Although the process is well established, each roster cycle presents unique logistical challenges that require critical thinking and problem solving to produce balanced, high‑quality rosters.
Full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop staff rosters for the frontline nursing and midwifery clinical services
- Maintain information for the portfolio of services for which each rostering coordinator is responsible.
- Create a new roster every four weeks (roster period) for each service, taking into account service needs, staff requests, employment conditions and good rostering practice.
- Work collaboratively to develop professional relationships with senior clinical managers to support the rostering process and roster creation.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to the organisation on rostering practices and the effective use of rostering tools and techniques.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to continuous improvement, both individually and as a team, to enhance our effectiveness and strengthen the quality of our rosters, tools, and processes.

About the Team/Service
Join our friendly and supportive team, providing rostering support and advice across the region. We are a small, friendly team with extensive knowledge and experience in rostering techniques and approaches. We are always looking for new ways to improve what we do and create rosters that are both practical and well-balanced.
The Centralised Rostering Service comprises, the rostering team and the rostering systems support team. The rostering team create the rosters for frontline clinical Nursing and Midwifery services. The systems team support the rostering systems and users.
We are part of the Integrated Operations Centre, the hub that leads, manages and monitors patient flow through the organisation by bringing together all relevant staffing and planning teams.

About you
We are looking for a motivated self-starter who takes pride in providing high quality service and enjoys the challenge of managing the complexities of staff rostering.
Ideally you will have previous experience in workforce planning/rostering within a complex environment, and have an understanding of employment conditions in relation to healthy rostering practices.
To be considered for this role, you will also need to be able to demonstrate the following skills, experience and attributes:
- A Degree in administration/management/health sciences or more than 5 years’ experience in an administration based role.
- Strong problem solving, critical thinking and analytical skills
- Numerical literacy with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- A mature and professional manner, reflecting excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- A high level of computer literacy, and previous experience in learning and using systems and applications
- A current New Zealand Driver's license
