About the Role

As the Regional Maternity Services Engagement Lead, you will help grow and strengthen maternity immunisation services across the Central | Te Ikaroa region. You will work alongside maternity providers, community midwives, obstetric services and antenatal clinics to increase access to maternal and childhood immunisation, particularly for communities experiencing poorer health outcomes. A key part of the role will be supporting new providers to come on board, developing workforce capability and helping services meet the required clinical, immunisation and cold chain standards.

You will provide practical advice, education and mentoring to maternity teams while supporting vaccine approvals, logistics, inventory and quality assurance. You will also contribute to service improvement, risk management and the effective use of the Aotearoa Immunisation Register. Building trusted relationships will be central to the role, working closely with IMAC, Māori and Pacific health providers, primary care and regional health teams to support safe, accessible and culturally responsive immunisation services.

About you

You are an experienced Registered Nurse with a strong background in immunisation, education and clinical support. You bring confidence in working with different health professionals and can provide practical guidance, mentoring and education in a way that builds capability and encourages providers to deliver safe and effective vaccination services. You are comfortable working independently, managing a changing schedule and taking responsibility for delivering agreed outcomes.

You are someone who builds trust easily and can adapt your communication style to different people, services and communities. You bring sound judgement, strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, along with a genuine commitment to continuous improvement and equitable health outcomes. You will also have an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the importance of working in partnership with Māori, while demonstrating professionalism, integrity and respect in everything you do.

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • Current Registered Nurse registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand, a current APC and five or more years of post-registration nursing experience.
  • Fully authorised Whole-of-Life Vaccinator with strong knowledge and experience in delivering childhood and maternal immunisations.
  • Adult teaching and learning qualification or similar, or a willingness to work towards one, with experience delivering education and developing health workforce capability.
  • Approved clinical and cold chain assessor with knowledge of vaccine storage, cold chain requirements, vaccine logistics and quality assurance.
  • Strong understanding of New Zealand pharmacy standards and competencies relevant to vaccination services.
  • Excellent communication, mentoring, relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively across maternity and wider health services.
  • Strong critical analysis, problem-solving, report writing and computer skills, with the ability to use evidence and insights to support service improvement.
  • Postgraduate study or working towards a postgraduate qualification, with a full New Zealand driver licence and the ability to work autonomously across a dynamic regional service.
