Waikato Hospital, Hamilton; 0.8 FTE (32 hours per week), fixed-term for 6 monthsAfter 6-months there is a possibility of extension for another 12-months (total 18-month role)Join new ways of working to address inequities in the health systemMake a positive difference for Māori whānau and improving health outcomesGain experience working within a successful research and operational teams Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders. About the RoleOur research team is seeking an experienced Project Coordinator to join our Māori Health research team here at Māori Health Services (Te Puna Oranga) at Waikato Hospital working on our project `Implementing a new partnership model for elimination of tuberculosis (TB) for Māori. Te kaupapaThe project builds on our current Whiri TB study and aims to expand the model of care to include a partnership between Māori Community Health Providers (MCHP), Public Health Service, and hospital-based TB treatment services personnel for improved hauora for Māori with TB and, ultimately, elimination of TB in Aotearoa New Zealand.We are wanting to test a new model of care that connects the above-stated teams that isMāori-led and whānau-centred with meaningful high-trust engagement with affected people and whānauuses a holistic approach that aims to improve health at individual, whānau and community levelsenhances the reach of contact tracing. Te RangahauUsing a Kaupapa Māori methodology and the He Pikinga Waiora implementation science framework, our project aim is to:Develop a referral pathway from public health to Māori Health providers for Māori with TBImplement and evaluate Whiri, a whānau-centred health and social support approachImplement and evaluate a culturally safe approach for screening TB contacts and providing preventive treatment;Assess the operational viability and acceptability of the partnership model;Assess the economic viability and national scalability of the partnership model. Te mahiThis is an exciting opportunity to be involved in supporting new ways of working in the health system, to address inequities. This programme of work will embrace Mātauranga Māori and Te Ao Māori in order to be effective for our Māori communities and fulfil our Te Tiriti obligations.Day to day: You will conduct research activities that support the whole project with a the focus on supporting and engaging the MHCPs across the Waikato and Bay of Plenty / Lakes regions.Key responsibilities of the role:Develop, build and nurture relationships with MCHPs selected for the project in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty/Lakes Regions.Undertake a Facility Readiness Assessment in partnership with MCHPPrepare evidence from the Facility Readiness Assessment and other key factors known about the care and control of TBDevelop training materials and standard operating procedures and provide training to MCHP partners.Work alongside MCHPs to support them in undertaking their work undertaking Whiri, and contact tracing. Click here to view the position description. About the TeamOur team is the Māori Health Rangahau/Research team, part of Te Puna Oranga (Māori Health Service) at Waikato Hospital.
