We are currently recruiting for a Maintenance Manager to work in Christchurch (Canterbury).

Purpose

As Maintenance Manager, you know what needs to be done and the high standard that work needs to be completed to. There’s nothing you or the team you manage can’t fix or don’t know how to fix with the right support, whether it’s: plumbing, carpentry, painting, planting and more

Primary Responsibilities

Every day will be different; however, your core responsibilities will be to:

  • You’re responsible for the overall maintenance strategy and planning, including critical ongoing maintenance issues
  • Complete repairs to guestrooms, utilising contractors or specialists as required when activities are out of technical scope
  • On shift, you’re always on-call for urgent maintenance / repair requests
  • Where circumstances prevent attending to urgent matters, you advise the manager on duty to obtain additional assistance so that matters can be dealt with as quickly as possible and you always follow-up
  • Complete routine cleaning of air conditioning filters, plant rooms and equipment as designated, as well as all routine preventative maintenance checks
  • You’re always driving continual improvement of the preventative maintenance system and implementation of the Asset Services Audit guidelines
  • Project Manager is one of the many hats you wear – you coordinate all major capital works with the hotel, council, regulatory bodies to ensure a smooth implementation and minimal disruption
  • Prepare cost estimates for work orders of significant expenditure
  • You’re proactive in providing input and recommendations regarding the Hotel’s proposed capital expenditure and capital works planning for head office and owner’s review
  • The engineering/maintenance operational budget is maintained under your close eye and key stakeholders informed when circumstances prevent adherence to this
  • Risk management is a priority, including observance of technical and statutory standards
  • You manage and monitor the engagement of contracts with sub-contractors
  • You liaise with all departments to ensure good housekeeping of plant and machinery
  • Under your watch, the inventory of spare parts is maintained and up to date
  • Provide a coordinate response to energy savings, water consumption limitations, waste disposal limitations and greenhouse gas abatement
  • You’re no stranger to reporting and compile monthly reports relating to engineering/maintenance as required
  • Responsible for investigating and recommendation of sources for parts and also contractors for projects ensuring a cost-effective approach and that this complies with policies and procedures
  • Challenge the process by consistently exploring new suppliers and contractors to enhance plant and machinery within the hotel
  • Health and safety is key – you’re always on the lookout for any hazards which should be reported timely, and ensure all work health and safety procedures and policies are followed

Your communication is unrivalled, and you always provide a clear and concise information to others as needed and during shift handover

Skills, Experience and requirements

  • You will have:
  • at least two years of relevant work experience in a comparable role with a comparable employer; or
  • a combination of a relevant diploma qualification and at least 1 year of relevant work experience in a comparable managerial role
  • Shift work will be required and may include early and late shifts, as well as overnight shift coverage as needed to support the Night Manager function, team and operation. Flexibility is a must.
  • Weekend and public holiday shifts are required.

Ideally you will also have (these are preferences and not mandatory requirements):

  • Exceptional communication skills - Multilingual would be viewed as an advantage, with spoken and written English at a proficient level.
  • Immaculately presented – you have exceptional grooming and always wear the appropriate uniform and name badge, with pride! You make sure your team always look the part too.
  • Demonstrable expertise in facilitating general front office procedures, night audit processes, and general operational activities.
  • Considerable experience in a Maintenance Manager or Night Manager capacity in a similar style and sized property in which you were managing people.
  • Protel Property Management System experience.
  • Experience in supporting logistics functions including processing of invoices, following up with debtors, batching and processing bank statements, responding to account related inquiries, conducting weekly commission processes
  • You will be expected to attend to basic facilities requests, assist with guest luggage, as needed.
