About the job
Join a fast-growing team delivering smart monitoring solutions across New Zealand.
As Cirro continues to grow, we're expanding our field capability to support an increasing number of geotechnical, environmental and infrastructure monitoring projects.
About The Role
We're looking for an enthusiastic Instrumentation Technician with a practical, hands-on mindset and a genuine curiosity about how things work. Whether your background is in electronics, trades, technology, earth sciences, environmental sciences, or you've simply always enjoyed building, fixing and problem-solving, we'd like to hear from you.
This role would suit someone who enjoys working both indoors and outdoors, is comfortable using technology, and takes pride in delivering quality work. Prior industry experience is not essential. We're more interested in your attitude, practical aptitude, willingness to learn and ability to adapt to new challenges.
No two days are the same. You could be bench testing and configuring monitoring equipment in our workshop one day, installing instrumentation on a construction project the next, and travelling to a remote field location shortly after. Our projects span geotechnical, environmental and infrastructure monitoring, providing exposure to a wide range of technologies, environments and applications.
If you're practical, enjoy solving problems, and have an interest in technology, the natural environment or how infrastructure performs, you'll fit right in. We offer a supportive team environment and the opportunity to develop valuable technical skills in a growing industry.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll play a key role in delivering Cirro's monitoring solutions by:
- Bench testing, configuring and preparing equipment in our workshop before deployment, ensuring everything is verified and ready to perform from day one.
- Installing and commissioning IoT monitoring hardware and field instrumentation.
- Troubleshooting installations and resolving technical issues in the field.
- Carrying out maintenance and servicing of existing monitoring systems.
- Integrating monitoring equipment with Cirro's telemetry platform.
- Working safely and professionally across a variety of construction, infrastructure and environmental sites.
- Delivering consistently high-quality workmanship while adapting to changing site conditions.
What You'll Bring
We’re looking for someone who enjoys tinkering with electronics, has completed some trade training, or simply likes figuring out how things work.
You'll ideally have:
- Previous hands-on experience in electronics, electrical, telecommunications, instrumentation, trades, outdoor/adventure industries, or anyone with demonstrated practical aptitude and a keen interest in technology.
- A full New Zealand Driver Licence.
- Strong safety awareness and confidence working in varied outdoor environments.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, both on the bench and in the field.
- Good communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with customers and colleagues.
- Confidence using computers and technology platforms.
- The ability to work independently and manage your time effectively.
- A willingness to travel as required and work in physically demanding environments.
Bonus points if you have:
- Experience with IoT hardware, sensors, telemetry or data logging systems.
- Experience within geotechnical, environmental or civil infrastructure monitoring.
Why join Cirro?
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing business with genuine momentum, where you'll work on technically interesting projects that make a real difference. Your work spans the full journey of a monitoring solution, from carefully bench testing and preparing equipment in the workshop, through to commissioning it in the field and seeing it deliver real data in the real world.
You'll be supported by an experienced, passionate team that enjoys sharing knowledge and helping each other succeed. If you're someone who enjoys learning, solving problems and working with emerging technology, you'll find plenty of opportunities to grow your skills.
About The Role

- Role combines workshop-based bench testing and preparation with field work throughout New Zealand.
