About the Role

The Group Manager, Mental Health & Wellbeing reports to the Director of Commissioning, National Mental Health and Addiction and leads teams responsible for national system and service redesign, transformation, service development, commissioning and sector relationships for primary and population mental wellbeing services.

The role oversees the development of services across the full range of mental health services and is accountable for improving health outcomes, equity and system performance. The role works in partnership with Hospital and Specialist services, Hauora Māori Services, the Ministry of Health, providers, regional commissioning teams and other stakeholders to protect, promote and improve the health of all New Zealanders.

About you

You bring more than 10 years' commissioning experience across varied and complex environments, with a strong track record in mental health system and service redesign.

You are a strategic and influential leader who can engage people around a clear vision, communicate complex information clearly and persuasively, and build trusted relationships with senior leaders, Boards, Ministers and sector partners.

You have experience leading high-performing teams through strategic change and transformation, fostering resilience, adaptability, psychological safety and trust while positioning services to meet current and future needs.
