About the job
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
Join our diverse and talented people and work at the heart of national security, providing essential intelligence to the NZ government to protect New Zealand and its people.
Mō te tūranga mahi – about the role
We are looking for a friendly and skilled Data Centre Electrician to join our Technology and Data team! In this role, you will be a go-to person for keeping our electrical and mechanical systems humming along perfectly.
It’s a role centred on helping people and solving problems. One day, you might be partnering with our Service Centre to support a colleague; the next, you could be diving into a complex engineering puzzle or installing a piece of cutting-edge equipment. You will have the opportunity to share your expertise with the wider team, helping us all work smarter and better together.
As an Electrician you will have gained experience that enables you to solve unique problems and think on your feet. This role opens the door to a range of new possibilities, as well as the chance to support New Zealand directly.
If you love the feeling of a job well done and enjoy being the "technical hero" who keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes, we’d love to have you on board.
Ko wai koe – about you
We are looking for a current New Zealand Registered Electrician with a valid Practising Licence, who brings both the technical chops and a great attitude. You will have at least two years of experience under your belt and hold a Level 5 National Certificate in Electrical Engineering (or Electricity Supply).
Due to the nature of our work, this role requires the ability to obtain and maintain a high-level government security clearance. This process involves a thorough background check.
Because our environment is unique, you should be comfortable with Safe Working at Height procedures and have a good handle on the Building Act.
Bonus points if you also bring:
- Knowledge of large UPS systems, standby generators, or industrial electrical work.
- Experience with HVAC plant operation and associated mechanical equipment.
- A background in electronics, IT administration, or security systems.
- Familiarity with the requirements of highly secure government or commercial IT environments.
- Health & Safety certifications (Levels 1–3).
If this sounds like you—or if you have most of these and a willingness to learn the rest—we want to hear from you!
The expected appointing range for this position is:
- Level 1: $73,684 - $78,596 (F)
- Level 2: $87,048 - $92,851 (G)
- Level 3: $103,009 - $109,876 (H)
Before you apply
Working within our unique environment means we have to ensure you're eligible for employment.
You must:
- Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years OR hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years,
AND
- Be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance
