About the job
A rare opportunity for an experienced Arborist to lead our Arboriculture team in Hastings, supporting the management and maintenance of Hastings District Council’s tree assets.
This role would suit an experienced arborist who is ready to drop the tools, step back from the physical side and switch into a team leadership style role that offers mentoring and assessment of projects and jobs.
As the Team Manager you will be responsible for planning and coordinating scheduled tree maintenance across the district, managing reactive works and ensuring jobs are appropriately prioritised, resourced and completed.
You will provide day to day leadership and technical guidance to the arboriculture team, with a strong focus on developing staff capability, safe work practices and quality outcomes while linking in with senior leaders to assist in growing the “arb” space and the overall business.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Planning and coordinating scheduled Hastings District Council tree maintenance and reactive works.
- Leading, mentoring and developing arboriculture staff, including supporting practical training and assessment.
- Providing technical arboricultural advice and undertaking climbing or operational work when required.
- Coordinating subcontractors and specialist arboricultural services.
- Planning worksite requirements, including traffic management and other controls required for safe roadside operations.
- Collecting, verifying and maintaining accurate tree asset, inspection and maintenance data.
- Monitoring work quality, productivity and compliance with Council and Green by Nature requirements.
- Responding to urgent tree issues, storm damage and other reactive works as required.
- Working closely with Council representatives and internal operational teams to plan and communicate works.
Applicants must hold a minimum Level 4 Arboriculture qualification and have substantial practical industry experience. Strong organisational and communication skills are important, along with the ability to lead experienced staff and develop less experienced arborists.
This is an opportunity for an experienced arborist to use their technical knowledge in a broader leadership role while remaining connected to practical arboriculture.
Please note: The position will still have some operational commitment so the ability and willingness to climb and undertake arboricultural work when required is essential.
