About the role

This is a 12 month Fixed Term opportunity to join Hutt City Council’s Transport team and provide a varied range of administration and coordination support across a varied range of activities, with a primary focus on supporting our Maintenance and Renewals team. You'll help coordinate contractor and financial processes, transport applications, and customer enquiries, while helping keep day-to-day operations running smoothly.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Support the operational delivery of the Maintenance & Renewals programme, including contractor coordination, contract records, payment processes, and audit requirements.
  • Coordinate transport permits, vehicle crossing applications, encroachment licences, and related fees and charges.
  • Support financial administration, including purchase orders, invoices, contract payment claims and other reporting requirements.
  • Act as a key coordination and triage point for transport customer enquiries, helping ensure requests are directed and managed effectively.
  • Assist with meetings, correspondence, accurate record keeping across Council systems, and other team and office processes, including during weather events or other emergencies.

About you

You’re an organised and capable administrator who enjoys supporting a busy team and helping things run smoothly. You bring:

  • At least two years’ experience providing efficient and effective administrative support.
  • Strong organisation and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands, meet deadlines, and take ownership of your work.
  • Confidence using digital systems and a high level of computer literacy.
  • Clear communication and a professional, customer-focused approach when working with colleagues and the public.
  • Local government experience, or an interest in learning how council services support the community.
