Help shape smarter, more resilient water networks across New Zealand

Mō tō mātou āhuatanga | Who we are

At Tonkin + Taylor, we help clients plan, assess and improve the infrastructure that supports communities across New Zealand.

Our Water team works across water supply, wastewater and stormwater as well as wider environmental projects. We help clients respond to growth, renew ageing assets and address resilience challenges through planning, modelling, assessment and design.

This role will support our water supply and wastewater network planning and modelling capability - helping clients understand how their networks are performing today and what they'll need in the future.

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We're looking for Water + Wastewater Engineers or Hydraulic Modellers to join our team.

A big part of this role is helping clients understand how their networks are performing and what they'll need in the future. You'll work across network planning, hydraulic modelling and infrastructure assessments, helping identify constraints, test options and support investment decisions.

The role offers plenty of variety and the opportunity to build experience across planning, modelling and design over time.

You'll work alongside experienced engineers and specialists from across T+T and gradually take on more responsibility for project delivery and client relationships.

Nobody arrives with experience across every aspect of the role. If you've built strong technical skills in one area and are keen to broaden your capability, we'd like to hear from you.

This is a full-time role and can be based at any of our offices across Aotearoa (Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Wellington, Nelson and Christchurch).

What You’ll Do

  • Contribute to water supply and wastewater projects from planning and assessment through to delivery.
  • Develop, update and review hydraulic network models.
  • Assess network performance, capacity and resilience.
  • Support growth planning, s and infrastructure investment decisions.
  • Develop network strategies and masterplans
  • Investigate constraints and evaluate improvement options.
  • Contribute to concept, preliminary and detailed design work.
  • Prepare reports, calculations and other technical deliverables.
  • Work closely with clients, project teams and technical specialists.
  • Contribute to proposals, project planning and business development activities.
  • Share knowledge and help grow T+T's water planning, modelling and design capability.

Nā tōu rourou | What you'll bring

We're interested in hearing from practical, curious engineers and modellers who enjoy solving complex network and infrastructure challenges.

Ideally you'll bring:

  • A degree in Civil, Environmental, Water Engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least three years' experience in water or wastewater design, hydraulic modellingor a related field.
  • Previous experience working in an engineering consultancy or local government is an advantage.
  • Experience in one or more of network modelling, hydraulic analysis, infrastructure planning, strategies or design.
  • The ability to interpret and quality-check engineering, GIS and asset data.
  • Experience using hydraulic modelling software, GIS, CAD or similar engineering tools.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to communicate technical information clearly.
  • A collaborative approach and sound professional judgement.

Experience across both water supply and wastewater is welcome but not essential.

We're also keen to hear from people with experience in stormwater, civil infrastructure, asset management, network planning or related fields. If you can bring strong technical foundations and a willingness to learn, we'd encourage you to apply.

Progress towards chartership with Engineering New Zealand (or equivalent) is desirable and T+T will support your ongoing professional development.
