The Opportunity | Te āheinga
Are you passionate about protecting the environment, supporting sustainable nutrient recycling, and making a real difference to the health and wellbeing of your community? If you enjoy hands-on work, problem-solving, and being part of a collaborative team, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
As a Waste Water Treatment Plant Technician, you'll play a key role in operating and maintaining the district’s wastewater treatment plant and five major pump stations. Working alongside a dedicated team, you'll help transform "pre-loved water" through a range of treatment processes, producing clean water and valuable organic fertiliser products. This is a varied, rewarding role where science, environmental stewardship and essential community services come together every day.
Essential Skills and Experience | Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako
To be successful in this role you will be a reliable team player and a problem solver with a ‘can do’ attitude. You will need a keen eye for detail, the ability to learn quickly, have a solid health and safety mind-set and care about our community and the natural environment. Ideally, you would have experience in wastewater operations or other process plant environments and a tertiary qualification at NZQA level 4. However, you don’t have to be qualified to start in this role. With the right attitude and maturity, you could join our team of skilled professionals, work through a competency framework and eventually complete an NZQA Certificate in Wastewater Treatment. Remuneration will increase upon completion of the Certificate in Wastewater Treatment and demonstration of competency in the role. This is a rostered position, therefore you would also need to be prepared to work weekends and be available to be on call and respond out of hours within Council’s committed response times, as per a standby roster.
