We are seeking dedicated Support Workers to join our passionate team in Rotorua. At Community Connections, we work collectively to empower disabled people to live the lives they choose, on their own terms and within their communities.
About Us
Community Connections is a values-led disability support provider operating across the North Island. Our vision is a fully inclusive Aotearoa, where disabled people are respected, supported, and able to live life on their own terms in the community of their choice.
We are an Equal Employment Opportunities employer and are committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and the New Zealand Disability Strategy. We strongly encourage applications from people with lived experience of disability or mental health, as well as those from Māori, Pasifika, and LGBTQIA+ communities.
The Role
We are seeking compassionate, reliable and adaptable Support Workers to join our Rotorua team on a casual basis. You’ll work alongside people with a range of support needs, including intellectual and physical disabilities, supporting them to build confidence, strengthen independence and participate in activities that are meaningful to them.
Using a “do with, not for” approach, you’ll promote choice, dignity and independence while respecting individual routines, preferences and communication needs. Building trusting relationships, supporting everyday living skills and encouraging meaningful community connections will be central to your role.
As this is a casual position, hours are not guaranteed and shifts will be offered according to service requirements, including cover for staff leave and other operational needs.
Important Information
Interviews are scheduled for 9 and 10 November 2026. Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and an appointment may be made before the advertised closing date if a suitable candidate is identified.
Gender-specific requirement: Due to the personal and intimate support needs of the person receiving support, and to respect their privacy, dignity and expressed preferences, this position is restricted to male applicants.
About You
You’ll bring a calm, respectful, and strengths-based approach to your work, along with a warm and person-centred mindset. Ideally, you’ll have experience—or a genuine interest—in supporting people with disabilities and mental health needs, and a willingness to keep learning and growing in your role. Your strong understanding of professional boundaries and privacy, combined with excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills, will help you build trusting relationships and thrive as part of a supportive team. Flexibility, reliability, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively will be key to your success in this role.
Experience or understanding in any of the following areas is highly desirable:
- Positive behaviour support and skill-building approaches
- Working alongside people with complex communication needs
- Understanding of intellectual disability
Essential Criteria
- Full New Zealand Driver’s Licence
- Legal right to work in New Zealand
- Willingness to undergo Police and Oranga Tamariki vetting
- Availability to work weekdays, weekends and overnight shifts for residential services
