Our employees are supported to innovate and learn something new every day. Based in Auckland, Quantifi Photonics is proud to be part of the Teradyne family, combining New Zealand’s innovative spirit with the resources of a global leader in test, automation, and robotics. We’re growing fast, tackling increasingly complex challenges, and are looking for passionate, talented people to help take Quantifi Photonics to the next level. Quantifi Photonics designs and manufactures advanced optical and electronic test instruments that enable engineers to develop and scale up next-generation photonics technologies. Our customers include global tech companies, leading universities, and world-class research institutions in over 25 countries; working across R&D, high-volume manufacturing, defence, aerospace, and academia. We cultivate a culture of inclusion for all employees that respects their individual strengths, views, and experiences. We believe that our differences enable us to be a better team, one that makes better decisions, drives innovation, and delivers better business results. Opportunity Overview The Senior Hardware Engineer is responsible for the design, development, verification, integration, and release of electronic hardware used in high-performance test and measurement instrumentation. The role contributes across analogue, digital, embedded, RF, microwave, and high-speed signal acquisition subsystems, from architecture definition through validation and production release. This position combines technical leadership, hands-on design, cross-functional collaboration, and mentoring of junior engineers to deliver robust, manufacturable products that meet customer and business requirements. Key Responsibilities Hardware Design and Development

  • Design and develop analogue, digital, embedded, RF, microwave, and high-speed electronic hardware and PCB assemblies.
  • In collaboration with peers define system and hardware architectures, detailed designs, verification plans, and validation criteria.
  • Perform schematic capture, PCB layout oversight, BOM creation, bring-up, debugging, functional testing, and design validation.
  • Contribute to the design and optimization of broadband RF front-end modules, amplifiers, attenuators, filters, sampler circuits, and related signal-chain blocks.
  • Develop prototypes and evaluate new technologies and product concepts.

Simulation, Analysis, and Characterization

  • Perform signal integrity, RF, and high-frequency circuit analysis using appropriate simulation tools.
  • Correlate simulation results with laboratory and system-level measurements.
  • Execute characterization and validation activities using oscilloscopes, VNAs, spectrum analysers, signal generators, LCR meters, and related test equipment.
  • Apply established verification, de-embedding, calibration, and measurement practices.

All About You We seek engineers who combine strong technical fundamentals with ownership, curiosity, and a commitment to customer success. The successful candidate will be able to progress defined engineering work with high level of autonomy, communicate risks early, and collaborate effectively across disciplines. Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, RF/Microwave Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience in hardware product design and development.
  • Experience with analogue, digital, embedded, RF, microwave, or high-speed electronic systems.
  • Hands-on experience using oscilloscopes, VNAs, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, multimeters, LCR meters, and related laboratory equipment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to document technical work clearly and communicate technical trade-offs effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with broadband RF and microwave subsystems.
  • Experience with high-speed communication or optical test and measurement systems.
  • Familiarity with sampling oscilloscopes, high-speed acquisition systems, or equivalent-time sampling techniques.
  • Experience with design validation testing, automated test systems, and test automation.
  • Experience using Matlab, Python, or C for engineering analysis or hardware validation.
  • Experience collaborating with FPGA, DSP, firmware, or mixed-signal design teams.

Benefits

  • Health insurance
  • Paid birthday leave
  • Employee assistance programme
  • Great staff facilities
  • Walking distance from Constellation Bus Station
  • Flexible and supportive work environment
