About the job
Mō te tūnga | About the role
As the Senior Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) Analyst within Headquarters Joint Forces New Zealand (HQJFNZ), you will be the GEOINT subject matter expert, delivering intelligence support that informs military operations, contingency planning and strategic decision-making across the NZDF.
This is more than an analytical role. You will provide authoritative advice on GEOINT capabilities, guide the application of emerging technologies, and ensure intelligence products meet the needs of commanders and planners.
Working in a dynamic environment at the intersection of intelligence, geospatial technologies and operational planning, you will integrate imagery, geospatial data and intelligence reporting into meaningful insights.
As a senior member of the team, you will mentor military and civilian analysts, champion best-practice GEOINT tradecraft, and build trusted relationships with stakeholders and customers across the NZDF.
Success in this role requires exceptional critical thinking, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate complex information clearly through both written and visual products.
This position carries a high level of personal responsibility and autonomy, while working collaboratively within a team environment that reflects NZDF values and ethos.
Due to the nature of the work and security requirements, there are very limited options to work remotely.
We would support a mid to late January 2027 start for this role.
The salary for this role ranges from $97,344 to $107,485, inclusive of a 4% superannuation contribution. Appointments within this range are based on skills and experience.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience

- Experience using GIS, imagery exploitation, and analytical tools, including ESRI products and other geospatial technologies.
- Strong technical proficiency across data management, mapping, imagery analysis, and intelligence product development.
- Ability to turn complex geospatial data into clear, actionable intelligence.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and develop other analysts.

- A sound understanding of security protocols, information handling requirements, and working within classified environments.
- Exceptional attention to detail, critical thinking and adaptability.
Ideally, you will have 5+ years' experience in a GEOINT, GIS, or Imagery Intelligence environment and hold relevant tertiary qualifications in Geospatial Information Systems, Cartography, Remote Sensing, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
