About the job

Company Description:Te Tākinatanga | Our Story

At Contact, we believe home is the most important place in the world. That belief shapes everything we do, from leading the energy transition to how we power Aotearoa and care for our people and communities.

We’re a power, broadband, and mobile company, but we’re also investing boldly in renewable energy and smarter, more connected ways of working (mahi). Our ambition is simple: to leave Aotearoa better than we found it.

Guided by our values & behaviours, we’re a team who care deeply about the work we do, how we support one another, and the impact we have. Simply put, we touch lives to make life better.

As Contact continues to invest in New Zealand's energy future, our Trading group plays an important role in understanding, analysing, and responding to an evolving energy market.

Joining our Market Development & Optimisation team in a 12-month fixed-term contract, you'll support a range of analytical and commercial activities across the Trading group. From pricing energy agreements and expanding reporting coverage through to supporting channel management strategy and improving processes, you'll gain exposure to work that helps inform commercial and trading decisions across the business.

If you've already built a foundation in analysis and are looking to broaden your experience, strengthen your commercial understanding, and build industry knowledge in a unique and evolving sector, this could be a great next step. You'll get a front-row seat to how data, markets, and commercial decision-making come together.

Job Description:Te Whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

You'll be part of a team that supports the Trading group, Renewable Growth business, and wider wholesale business through market analysis, reporting, commercial insight, and quantitative assessment.

In this role, you'll:

  • Apply quantitative analysis to support pricing activities, energy agreements, and commercial decision-making.
  • Help develop and expand reporting that supports sales activities and channel management strategy.
  • Partner with stakeholders across Trading and the wider wholesale business to turn complex information into clear insights and recommendations.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of pricing tools, reporting processes, and systems used across the Trading group.
  • The role offers a mix of technical analysis, stakeholder engagement, reporting, and commercial exposure. You'll have the opportunity to work across a variety of activities, giving you visibility of how different parts of the wholesale business operate and how analytical insights contribute to decision-making.

Qualifications:Ko wai koe | About You

You're someone who enjoys understanding the story behind the numbers and what drives them. You like solving problems, working with data, and collaborating with others to deliver practical outcomes.

You'll likely come with:

  • Experience in data analysis, quantitative analysis, or analytical problem-solving in a commercial or professional environment for the last 2-3 years.
  • Coding capability and confidence using analytical tools such as Python, R, or similar.
  • Strong attention to detail and an ability to work through complex information and requirements.
  • Commercial awareness and an interest in understanding how analysis supports business decisions.
  • Confidence building relationships and working effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • A proactive approach, sound judgement, and an ability to translate between technical detail and business priorities.
  • A relevant qualification in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, Finance, Science, or a related discipline.

Energy industry experience would be beneficial, but it isn't essential. We're interested in people who bring analytical capability and perspectives shaped by different industries, backgrounds, and disciplines.
