Maintenance Engineer

About the Role At Northpower, we're committed to delivering safe, reliable electricity to our communities. We're looking for an experienced Maintenance Engineer to join our Network team and play a key role in ensuring the ongoing performance, reliability, and integrity of our substation assets. Reporting to the Substation Engineering Manager, you'll provide technical expertise and engineering support across Northpower's substation maintenance programmes. You'll work closely with engineers, contractors, asset specialists, and operational teams to improve asset performance, investigate failures, optimise maintenance strategies, and support critical network projects. This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll influence how we maintain and manage substations across their lifecycle, helping to ensure our network remains safe, resilient, and fit for the future.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

• Developing

and improving substation maintenance programmes and strategies.

• Analysing

asset condition and maintenance data to identify risks and improvement opportunities.

• Performing

root cause investigations and implementing reliability improvement initiatives.

• Developing

maintenance standards, procedures, and quality assurance processes.

• Conducting

technical reviews, audits, and assessments of maintenance activities.

• Providing

engineering input into substation projects, refurbishments, and asset replacement programmes.

• Supporting

contractors and specialist service providers with technical guidance and oversight.

• Ensuring

maintenance practices align with regulatory, industry, and Northpower requirements.

• Contributing

to the ongoing reliability, safety, and performance of Northpower's electrical network.

About You You're an experienced electrical engineer who combines strong technical knowledge with a practical approach to asset management and maintenance. You enjoy solving complex technical problems, working collaboratively with stakeholders, and finding ways to improve reliability while managing risk and cost.

To be successful in this role, you'll bring:

• A

tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

• Experience

in substation engineering, asset maintenance, or electrical network operations.

• Strong

knowledge of reliability-centred maintenance principles, root cause analysis, and asset lifecycle management.

• Experience

developing maintenance strategies, standards, and work programmes.

• A

solid understanding of substation equipment, asset performance, and maintenance practices.

• Experience

analysing technical data and translating insights into practical improvements.

• Strong

stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to work effectively with contractors, suppliers, and internal teams.

• Excellent

problem-solving, communication, and reporting skills.

• A

commitment to health, safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
