Kāinga Ora is looking for a skilled Infrastructure Engineer to join our team, providing third-level operational support across our enterprise technology environment. In this role, you will help ensure our critical platforms remain secure, reliable, and well-managed while supporting business initiatives and contributing to continual service improvement.

You'll join a team responsible for supporting and evolving a complex enterprise environment spanning cloud, identity, collaboration, networking, security, and core infrastructure services.

You'll play a key role in maintaining the stability, security, and reliability of these services while contributing to service improvements, automation initiatives, and project delivery.

As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will:

  • Manage, support, and optimise enterprise infrastructure and cloud platforms
  • Manage risk and security by ensuring systems remain patched, supported, and compliant
  • Support Business Continuity (BCP) and Disaster Recovery (DR) activities to maintain service resilience
  • Provide technical expertise and delivery support for infrastructure projects and business initiatives
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve complex operational issues across enterprise platforms
  • Drive operational excellence by identifying improvements, refining processes, and maintaining high-quality technical documentation
  • Contribute to automation and service improvement initiatives that enhance reliability, efficiency, and user experience
  • Build effective relationships with project teams, technology partners, and internal stakeholders to deliver reliable services
  • Take ownership of operational outcomes, ensuring services meet performance, availability, and security expectations.

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu - What you will bring

We are looking for an engineer with strong operational infrastructure experience, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to delivering reliable technology services.

You'll be someone who takes ownership, follows issues through to completion, builds strong working relationships, and understands that operational excellence is the foundation of great technology outcomes. You'll actively look for opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability, and security through continuous improvement and appropriate automation.

Key skills and experience:

  • Core ICT Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with Microsoft Server OS, Microsoft 365, Public Cloud (Azure), Active Directory / Entra ID, Exchange Online, endpoint management technologies, enterprise security tooling, SSL certificates, and DNS/domain management
  • Network & Security: Practical experience supporting and managing firewalls, routers, switches, load balancing solutions, and security controls
  • Operational Excellence: Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining service quality, reliability, security, and stakeholder expectations
  • Problem Solving & Ownership: Proven ability to investigate issues, identify root causes, and take ownership through to resolution
  • Continuous Improvement: Experience identifying opportunities to improve services, streamline processes, and automate repetitive tasks
  • Communication & Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with technical teams, vendors, and business stakeholders.

Note: This position involves occasional work outside standard business hours and participation in an on-call standby roster.
