This is a rare opportunity to join Endura Mining at a foundational stage and help shape its future from the ground up. With active site operations in New Zealand and a growing Sydney based corporate team, we are entering an exciting phase of rapid growth and transformation.
Endura is led by a world class executive team with deep operational experience and a shared long term vision to build a modern, values driven mining company.
The Health & Safety Superintendent provides leadership and oversight of the health and safety function at Snowy River Gold Mine, including oversight of site security and access-control functions. The position leads the site safety team and is accountable for safety governance, assurance, regulatory compliance and continuous improvement across surface and contractor-managed underground operations.
The role supports leaders and workers to maintain safe and healthy work practices, oversees contractor safety performance, and ensures the site health and safety management system, security arrangements and site-access controls meet legislative, company and operational requirements.
As our Health & Safety Superintendent, you will be responsible for:
Safety Leadership and Team Management
- Lead and develop the Safety Advisor and HSEC Systems Specialist & Document Controller by setting priorities, work plans and objectives; holding regular one-on-ones and annual reviews; and planning succession.
- Delegate field safety support to the Safety Advisor and systems administration, data integrity and document control to the Systems Specialist, while remaining accountable for quality, timeliness and outcomes.
- Plan resources and roster coverage for safety governance, assurance and support across surface and contractor-managed underground operations on both shifts.
- Prepare and manage the safety function’s annual work plan and delegated budget, and act for the HSEC Manager when required.
- Maintain a visible field presence on surface and in contractor-managed underground operations through planned verification, leadership interactions and coaching.
Legislative and Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and applicable regulations covering mining and quarrying, general risk and workplace management, hazardous substances, and worker engagement. Apply relevant WorkSafe NZ approved codes and guidance.
- Support the Site Senior Executive to meet statutory duties, including maintaining an effective Health and Safety Management System.
- Maintain the legal requirements register, monitor changes and advise the HSEC Manager and GM on site implications.
- Escalate identified NZ notifiable events and high-potential incidents within statutory timeframes, preserve sites as required and submit periodic safety returns.
- Coordinate WorkSafe NZ inspections and responses to notices, and track regulatory actions to closure.
- Provide the GM and directors timely information on hazards, risks, resources and compliance to support section 44 due diligence.
Critical Risk and Principal Hazard Management
- Lead the site safety risk framework, aligned with ISO 31000, including baseline, issue-based and task-based assessments and the safety risk register.
- Assure that PHMPs and PCPs, including contractor plans, remain current, are reviewed after required intervals or trigger events, and are effectively implemented. Principal hazards include ground instability, inundation and inrush, vehicle operating areas, air quality, fire or explosion, and explosives.
- Lead critical control governance: confirm controls for material unwanted events, set assurance requirements, verify site and contractor performance, and escalate failures.
- Assure effective safe systems of work for Endura and its contractors, including permits, isolation and lock-out, work at height, confined space, hot work, JHA/Take 5 and change management.
Health, Hygiene and Fitness for Work
- Oversee occupational health and hygiene monitoring under the Health Control Plan for silica, diesel particulate matter, noise, vibration and heat stress. Compare results with WorkSafe exposure standards and ensure action.
- Oversee health monitoring, pre-employment and periodic medicals, and confidential health information management under the Health Information Privacy Code 2020.
- Oversee fitness for work, including drug and alcohol testing under AS/NZS 4308 and AS 4760, and fatigue management.
- Lead injury management and return to work with ACC, providers and supervisors, arranging early, safe and suitable duties.
Incident Management and Investigation
- Ensure incidents, hazards and near misses are reported, classified by actual and potential severity, and recorded in the HSEC system.
- Lead or oversee serious and high-potential incident investigations using ICAM or equivalent, including contractor investigations and actions. Assign lower-level Endura investigations to the Safety Advisor and review quality.
- Ensure corrective actions are specific, assigned, closed on time and verified as effective, and share lessons through alerts and toolbox talks.
Emergency Preparedness
- Govern and support emergency preparedness, aligning Endura and underground contractor arrangements for mine rescue, refuge chambers, self-rescuers, personnel tracking, first aid, and scheduled desktop and practical exercises.
Contractor Safety
- Govern underground and other contractor safety through prequalification, interface agreements, management-plan review, inductions, assurance and field monitoring. Consult, cooperate and coordinate with contractor PCBUs without assuming day-to-day operational control.
- Assess contract management, verify agreed controls and obligations, and escalate material or repeated non-conformance.
Worker Engagement, Training and Safety Culture
- Support worker engagement and representation, including Health and Safety Representatives, the Health and Safety Committee, and pre-start and toolbox content.
- Work with the People and Culture team on induction, training needs and competency frameworks so workers hold required competencies and statutory certificates before starting tasks.
- Lead OneSafe Endura behavioural safety and improvement initiatives.
Site Security and Access Control
- Oversee site security and access-control arrangements to protect people, assets and operations and prevent unauthorised entry.
- Ensure access authorisations, identity checks, inductions, visitor management, keys, passes and electronic access permissions are controlled, current and periodically reviewed.
- Ensure security breaches, unauthorised access and related incidents are reported, investigated and escalated, with corrective actions tracked to closure and controls reviewed for effectiveness.
Assurance, Reporting and Systems Governance
- Deliver the annual inspection and internal audit programme, coordinate external and corporate audits, and maintain ISO 45001 alignment.
- Prepare monthly safety reports with lead and lag indicators and trend analysis for the HSEC Manager, GM and Board.
- Own the HSEC management and document-control systems: set review priorities, approve controlled safety documents, and ensure legally compliant records. The Systems Specialist handles daily administration.
- Support management review and continuous improvement of the safety management system
