About the job

Company Description:Our Pact Packaging division is pioneering a whole product life cycle approach to sustainable packaging. Partnering with global brands and local dairy producers, we integrate supply chain efficiencies and sustainable practices into everything we design and manufacture.

We're looking for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to partner with leaders and frontline teams at our Albany manufacturing site. You'll provide practical advice, build safety capability and help turn systems and standards into safer ways of working every day.

Job Description:Reporting to the Business Unit Manager, you'll be a member of the site Senior Leadership Team and a visible, trusted safety partner across the Albany site. You'll work closely with the Quality Manager, Engineering, Operations and other site leaders to help shape safety priorities and influence business decisions.

This is a hands-on opportunity to coach teams, strengthen safety ownership and improve how risk is managed in a practical manufacturing environment. You'll have the scope to influence change, lead improvement and help ensure everyone goes home safe every day.

You'll be involved in:

  • Partnering with leaders and frontline teams to strengthen safety ownership and capability
  • Maintaining and continuously improving site HSE systems, standards and reporting
  • Leading audits, risk assessments, incident investigations and corrective actions
  • Identifying critical risks and helping ensure effective, practical controls are in place
  • Supporting machinery safety, contractor management and environmental compliance
  • Coordinating HSE training, employee participation and the Site Health & Safety Committee
  • Building strong relationships across the site to turn improvement opportunities into action

You'll be part of a collaborative site team where your ideas, judgement and visible presence can make a tangible difference to people and performance.

About you

You're a practical, credible safety professional who enjoys being where the work happens. You know how to build trust, ask the right questions and influence better outcomes without losing sight of operational realities.

You'll ideally bring:

  • A New Zealand Certificate in Workplace Health and Safety Practice (Level 4), or a relevant equivalent qualification
  • At least three years' experience in a health and safety role, ideally within manufacturing or another operational environment
  • Strong working knowledge of New Zealand health and safety legislation and HSE management systems
  • An understanding of the application of, and compliance with, AS/NZS 4024 machinery safety standards
  • Experience with audits, risk assessments, incident investigations and corrective action management
  • The confidence to coach, influence and constructively challenge people at all levels
  • Clear communication, sound judgement and strong attention to detail
  • A collaborative, solutions-focused approach and genuine commitment to continuous improvement

You'll be approachable and adaptable, comfortable moving between the shop floor and leadership conversations, and motivated by helping people take genuine ownership of safety.

What's in it for you?

There's plenty on offer beyond the role itself:

  • Permanent, full-time employment
  • Regular remuneration reviews and staff discounts
  • Discounted Southern Cross health insurance
  • Free onsite parking and annual flu vaccinations
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • MyLearning development programmes, including leadership development and online learning
  • Career opportunities across the wider Pact Group

You'll also have the opportunity to grow your HSE capability in a business where safety, manufacturing and continuous improvement are central to what we do.
