Are you passionate about sustainability and creating meaningful environmental impact? Join McCain Foods as our Environmental Coordinator at our Timaru plant and play a key role in helping us achieve our environmental ambitions.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a global sustainability agenda while gaining hands-on experience across environmental compliance, resource efficiency, waste reduction, emissions management, and continuous improvement initiatives. Working closely with site leaders and the Health, Safety & Environment team, you'll help drive environmental performance, support ISO 14001 systems, and bring McCain's sustainability commitments to life at a local level.

What you’ll be doing.
- Coordinate and support the delivery of the Timaru site's environmental management plan.
- Monitor and report on environmental performance metrics including energy, water, waste, by-products and carbon emissions.
- Support the implementation of McCain's regional and global environmental sustainability initiatives.
- Coordinate environmental service providers and contractors, ensuring effective service delivery and compliance.
- Assist with resource-efficiency projects focused on reducing environmental impacts across the site.
- Prepare for and support internal and external environmental audits, including ISO 14001 activities.
- Maintain environmental records, permits, licences, consents and compliance documentation.
- Coordinate environmental incident reporting, investigations and corrective action follow-up.
- Collect, validate and analyse environmental data, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Deliver environmental awareness initiatives and support training activities across the site.
What you’ll need to be successful.
- A certificate, diploma or tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Environmental Management or a related discipline is desirable.
- Previous experience in an environmental, compliance, sustainability, manufacturing or operational support role is advantageous.
- Knowledge of environmental legislation, compliance requirements or environmental management systems is desirable.
- Exposure to ISO 14001 or similar management systems would be beneficial.
- Strong administrative and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Confidence working with data, reports and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- A genuine passion for sustainability and continuous improvement.
- Ability to build effective working relationships across diverse teams.
About the team.
You'll be part of the Health, Safety & Environment team at our Timaru facility, working closely with the Health Safety & Environment Manager and partnering with leaders across manufacturing, operations and support functions. Together, you'll help ensure environmental compliance, improve site sustainability performance and contribute to McCain's environmental goals across Australia and New Zealand.
