About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Deputy Charge Nurse to join our team at Local Doctors Mount Roskill.
This is an exciting opportunity for a senior Registered Nurse looking to step into a leadership role while maintaining a strong clinical presence. As Deputy Charge Nurse, you will support the Charge Nurse and wider clinical team to deliver safe, high quality, patient centred care across both General Practice and Urgent Care services.
Local Doctors Mount Roskill is a busy hybrid General Practice and Urgent Care clinic providing both planned and unplanned care to a diverse patient population. Alongside your leadership responsibilities, you will remain actively involved in patient care, supporting clinical excellence, workforce development, and positive patient outcomes.
This is a full-time position working a rotating roster between Monday and Sunday from 8:00am to 8:00pm, including weekends. Rosters are available six weeks in advance to support work life balance and personal planning.
What You Will Do
As a valued member of the clinical leadership team, you will:
- Deliver high quality, patient centred nursing care.
- Perform triage, patient assessment, and nursing interventions.
- Assess and support the management of acute illness, injury presentations, and long term conditions.
- Recognise and appropriately escalate clinical deterioration.
- Support immunisation programmes, health screening initiatives, and preventative healthcare activities.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and support to nursing team members.
- Support the Charge Nurse in the day to day operation of nursing services.
- Promote clinical quality, best practice, and continuous improvement.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and patient records.
- Work collaboratively with General Practitioners, Urgent Care Clinicians, Nurse Practitioners, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Act in the Charge Nurse capacity when required.
What You Will Bring
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate.
- Previous nursing experience in General Practice or Urgent Care, with experience across both settings preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership experience or the ability to support and develop other nurses.
- Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational and time management abilities.
- A commitment to culturally safe, patient centred care.
- Confidence working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application within healthcare delivery.
The following would be advantageous:
- Current Authorised Vaccinator certification.
- Experience with chronic disease management and preventative healthcare programmes.
- Experience with cervical screening and women's health services.
- Experience using MedTech Evolution or a similar patient management system.
