NZME · 1001-5000 employees
What the role involves
- Scheduling music logs
- Writing station imaging
- Supporting programming
What they ask for
Passion for music and radio, strong attention to detail, good writing skills, comfort with technology, ability to handle unexpected issues, and team player.
About the job
Love music? Love radio? Want to help shape how The Hits sounds every day?
We’re looking for an outstanding Content Assistant to join The Hits Content team.
This is a hands-on role at the heart of the station. You’ll work across music, imaging and programming, helping make sure everything our audience hears is polished, accurate, current and unmistakably The Hits.
If you’re the sort of person who notices the song that plays next, the sweeper between the songs, or the tiny detail everyone else misses, we want to hear from you.
What you'll be doing
Music
Music is a huge part of this role. You’ll:
- Schedule and prepare The Hits music logs.
- Review each log for accuracy, flow and scheduling issues before it goes to air.
- Manage music changes, additions and rotations within our scheduling systems.
- Take overall responsibility for The Hits music research programme, coordinating its execution and ensuring results are accurately captured and available to help inform our music decisions.
- Work closely with the Content team on the day-to-day execution of The Hits music strategy.
Station imaging
You'll also help shape the bits between the songs:
- Write sharp, engaging station imaging that sounds like The Hits.
- Create copy supporting our music position, shows, promotions and major station moments.
- Load and schedule imaging and keep our on-air messaging fresh and up to date.
- Work alongside Content and Production to bring station campaigns and ideas to life.
Programming support
Radio doesn't stop at 5pm, and neither do the unexpected moments.
You'll:
- Provide day-to-day support to The Hits Content team.
- Help maintain the accuracy and integrity of our broadcast and scheduling systems.
- Be the first point of contact for 24/7 technical support for The Hits, triaging on-air or broadcast issues and escalating them to the appropriate technical teams when required.
- Assist with promotions, competitions, special programming and other station activity.
- Listen critically to The Hits and spot things we can fix, improve or make better.
Who we're looking for
You don't necessarily need years of radio experience.
You do need to be someone who cares about getting things right.
You'll probably be:
- Passionate about music, radio and popular culture.
- Highly organised with exceptional attention to detail.
- A good writer who can say something interesting in very few words.
- Comfortable with technology and quick to learn new systems.
- Calm and resourceful when something goes wrong.
- Curious about why some songs, ideas and pieces of content connect with an audience and others don't.
- Someone who takes ownership rather than waiting to be told what to do.
- A team player who is happy doing the detailed work but ambitious to learn more.
Experience with music scheduling and broadcast systems would be an advantage, but attitude, judgement and potential matter just as much.
Why this role?
It's an opportunity to learn the craft of programming a major music radio brand from the inside. You'll get exposure to music strategy, audience research, imaging, scheduling, production and the day-to-day decisions that determine what comes out of the speakers.
You'll have real responsibility from day one, and for the right person, there's plenty of room to grow.
If you're passionate about music, fascinated by radio and think you'd be brilliant at helping make The Hits sound better every day, we'd love to hear from you.
Love The Hits. Help make The Hits.
