At Christians Against Poverty (CAP), we believe every person and whānau deserves the opportunity to flourish, free from the weight of money chaos.For nearly two decades, CAP has walked alongside New Zealanders experiencing unmanageable debt and financial hardship, partnering with local churches to provide practical help, restore hope and build lasting financial resilience.

CAP is now entering an exciting next season. With strong foundations, trusted church partnerships and a committed team, we are seeking an experienced and faith-filled Chief Executive Officer to steward what has been built while discerning and leading CAP’s next season of impact and growth.

Reporting to the Board, you will provide the strategic, organisational and spiritual leadership that brings CAP’s vision, mission and impact to life. You will lead and empower our people, shape strategy and culture, strengthen relationships with churches, supporters and key stakeholders, and ensure CAP remains sustainable, trusted and faithful to its Christian mission and values.

As the public face of CAP, you will champion our Christian philosophy and kaupapa, inspire others to join us in our mission, and help enable more individuals and whānau across Aotearoa to experience hope, freedom and transformation.

Key areas of responsibility include:

• Lead the development and delivery of CAP’s strategic priorities, ensuring long-term sustainability, impact, and innovation

• Foster a Christ-centred culture where people flourish, values are lived, and leadership reflects humility, integrity, service, and faith

• Build and strengthen relationships with churches, supporters, partners, and communities, representing CAP with credibility and inspiring engagement in our mission.

• Champion financial sustainability through strong stewardship, generosity, and strategic funding partnerships

• Partner with the Board to achieve CAP’s vision while ensuring effective governance, risk management, accountability, and organisational performance

About you

You are an experienced executive senior leader, excited to bring your leadership and expertise to enable the greatest possible impact for whānau experiencing money chaos in Aotearoa.

You are an influential leader, who challenges yourself and others. You don’t opt to take a path of least resistance. Instead, you leverage your skills and expertise to do what is right for the Kaupapa and the people you’re serving.

You are ready to undertake a journey – not only committed to your own professional and personal transformation, but you are deeply invested in enabling transformation in others.

You’ll also bring relevant experience for the role:

• Significant executive leadership experience, preferably as a CEO or senior executive.

• Demonstrated experience leading organisational growth, change and strategy.

• A strong commitment to the Christian faith and a passion for CAP's mission.

• Strong relationship-building and communication skills.

• Experience working with boards and governance structures.

• Financial and commercial acumen.

• An ability to inspire, influence and unite diverse stakeholders around a shared vision.

• A servant-hearted leadership style characterised by authenticity, humility and courage.

• Experience within the not-for-profit, community, church, social service or charitable sectors would be advantageous, although not essential.
