About the Role

Queenstown is about to get a new place to eat, and you could help launch it. Notch is QT Queenstown's brand new premium restaurant, built around farm to table cuisine that celebrates the best produce Central Otago has to offer. We're looking for a talented Chef de Partie to join the Notch kitchen from the start, working alongside the Executive Chef and Sous Chef to turn exceptional ingredients into dishes guests will talk about long after the last plate is cleared.

This is a full time role with a minimum of 40 hours per week. You'll help set the standard from day one, while sharing your knowledge on portion control, quality control, waste control and product preparation with the wider team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Craft high quality farm to table dishes with consistency and flair, following standard recipes and showing superior knowledge of every item on the Notch menu
  • Prepare sauces, soups and hot dishes for service and special functions, and plate and garnish pantry items including salads, desserts and specialty dishes
  • Champion the quality of seasonal produce through careful portion control, waste control and smart requisitioning in line with hotel policies
  • Keep all food storage areas spotless and well organised, ensuring correct storage techniques and the hotel's cleanliness standards are upheld
  • Maintain a clean and safe kitchen, following all workplace health and safety guidelines and looking after your equipment
  • Work closely with the kitchen and service team, attend scheduled meetings and anticipate guest needs to deliver those unexpected and unrequested moments

What You'll Bring

  • A Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (or NZ Certificate in Cookery Level 4 or equivalent), plus a minimum of 2 years' on-the-job experience in a commercial kitchen
  • Alternatively, a minimum of 3 years' relevant experience as a Chef or Chef de Partie in a quality hotel or restaurant kitchen
  • Previous signature restaurant experience is advantageous
  • A passion for fresh, seasonal, locally sourced produce and farm to table cooking
  • Strong knowledge of food products, recipes, portion control and waste control
  • Sound understanding of food safety, storage and workplace health and safety practices
  • A team player who maintains positive working relationships and high standards of personal presentation
  • Availability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, including a flexible roster
