About the job

Casual Healthcare Assistants - Inpatient Unit

Casual Positions | Palmerston North

At Arohanui Hospice, our name says it all - Arohanui means "with much love", and that's the spirit we bring to everything we do. We provide specialist palliative care with aroha, compassion, and clinical excellence to people with life-limiting illnesses, while supporting their whānau throughout their journey.

We are currently looking for compassionate and reliable Casual Healthcare Assistants to join our Inpatient Unit team.

These casual positions are ideal for people who enjoy variety and flexibility, while being available to support our service during our busiest periods, including the Christmas and New Year period.

As part of our 24/7 service, successful applicants must be available to work a rotating roster across mornings, afternoons, weekends, public holidays and night shifts.

About The Role

As a Healthcare Assistant, you'll play an important role in supporting both our patients and the wider team. Alongside providing personal care and assistance with daily activities, you'll help maintain a comfortable, welcoming environment by contributing to housekeeping duties such as laundry, cleaning patient areas, restocking supplies, and assisting with meal services.

Hospice care is often at a gentler pace than acute hospital environments, allowing our team to focus on delivering person-centred care, comfort, dignity and connection.

What You'll Bring

  • A caring, respectful and compassionate approach
  • Previous experience in healthcare, aged care, disability support, home care or a similar environment
  • The ability to work confidently as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • A willingness to assist with both patient care and general housekeeping duties
  • Strong communication skills and a positive attitude
  • Reliability and flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including nights

Ideally You'll Also Have

  • Experience supporting people with complex health needs, frailty, dementia, palliative care or rehabilitation
  • Confidence working under the delegation of a Registered Nurse
  • Basic computer skills for recording and accessing patient information

Why Join Arohanui Hospice?

When you join Arohanui Hospice, you become part of a team dedicated to making every moment matter for patients and their whānau.

We Offer

  • A supportive and inclusive team environment
  • Meaningful work that makes a genuine difference every day
  • The opportunity to gain valuable experience in specialist palliative care

If you're a practical, caring person who enjoys helping others and can commit to working across a rotating roster during the holiday season and beyond, we'd love to hear from you.

To be considered for this role, you must have the right to work in New Zealand without employer sponsorship.
