About the job
There's a lot of information sitting behind an electricity network and when that information is accurate, visible and easy to understand, better decisions follow. We're looking for an experienced Asset Data Analyst on a 12-month fixed-term contract to help us unlock greater value from our asset data.
You'll get into the detail, uncover patterns and inconsistencies, build useful reporting and dashboards and turn complex information into clear insights that people can actually act on.
This isn't a role where you'll simply produce reports and send them off. You'll work across the business helping people understand what the data is telling us, where the gaps are and what we should focus on next.
About us
Passionate, curious, and innovative are a few words that describe our people. We are powering the future, connecting communities, and igniting innovation. Orion owns and operates the electricity distribution network that provides power to central Canterbury. As the third largest electricity distribution network in New Zealand, we cover remote rural areas, regional towns, and the city of Christchurch.
We are an essential service and take our responsibilities seriously. We are community owned and working here means a career with meaning and purpose that makes a difference in your very own neighbourhood.
The role
You'll work with asset and as-built data, turning complex information into clear insights that help people make better decisions. You'll dig into data quality, spot trends and inconsistencies, and build reporting that makes the information easier to understand and act on.
You'll also:
- Build useful dashboards, reporting and analysis while identifying data quality issues, trends and opportunities for improvement
- Turn messy data into clear, trustworthy insights and find smarter ways to automate reporting and validation
- Bring natural curiosity and strong analytical skills, with experience using tools such as Power BI, Power Query, SQL and/or Python; GIS or Maximo experience would be a bonus
- Explore practical ways AI can improve how we analyse, validate and work with data, reducing manual effort and making processes more efficient
- Work across teams to understand their data and reporting needs, turning these into useful insights that support better decisions
About you
You'll be an experienced analyst who enjoys getting into complex or imperfect data, figuring out what's going on and turning it into something useful.
You'll bring:
- A relevant qualification or equivalent practical experience with strong analytical and data-wrangling skills
- Experience with Power BI and SQL and/or Python and the ability to turn complex data into clear, useful insights
- A curious, practical mindset with an interest in automation and AI
- Strong communication skills and confidence working across teams
- Experience with GIS, Maximo or asset-intensive environments would be useful

You'll find at Orion, you can come as you are and just be you. You will be joining a workplace that values who you are, the work you do, and the way you think. Importantly, we offer:
- Flexible working arrangements, and flexible locations with our Head office in Burnside and satellite offices in Rolleston and Ferrymead
