The Digital, Data and Finance Group brings together financial stewardship, digital capability and data insight to support how Maritime NZ makes informed investment and prioritisation decisions.

Within this, the Strategic Finance function plays a critical role in ensuring funding, affordability and investment decisions are well aligned with organisational priorities and long-term sustainability.

Te tūnga | The role

As the Strategic Finance and Funding Lead, you’ll be focused on shaping how Maritime NZ funds its future - you’ll provide expert advice on funding strategy, affordability and investment trade-offs, ensuring decisions are sustainable, evidence-based and aligned to strategic priorities.

Taking a system-wide view, you’ll be connecting funding settings with organisational strategy, delivery capacity and long-term transformation goals.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Leading the development and ongoing stewardship of funding and affordability strategy
  • Translating strategy and government funding settings into clear, actionable financial choices
  • Developing funding proposals, business cases and investment advice
  • Designing frameworks and tools that support prioritisation and long-term financial sustainability including long term strategic financial plans and long-term intention plans.
  • Providing scenario modelling and analysis to inform investment decisions and trade-offs, and able to translate these into clear and coherent papers for senior management/Board decisions.
  • Supporting senior leaders and governance forums with high-quality financial insight and advice.
  • Working across teams to ensure funding considerations are embedded early in planning and decision-making.

This role plays a critical part in ensuring Maritime NZ can deliver its priorities within funding constraints while planning confidently for the future.

Nōu te rourou | What you bring

You’re a strategic finance professional who can connect complex funding environments with real-world decision-making. You’re comfortable working at a senior level and influencing outcomes through strong analysis, with ability to articulate in a clear and concise manner and with excellent written skills.

You will bring:

  • Experience in strategic finance, funding strategy, economics or public sector investment
  • Strong understanding of funding models, affordability and long-term financial sustainability
  • Experience developing business cases, long term financial plans, funding proposals or investment advice
  • Strong analytical capability, including scenario modelling and trade-off analysis
  • Ability to integrate financial considerations with strategy, workforce and delivery planning
  • Experience working with senior leaders and governance processes
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex financial information
  • A systems-thinking approach

Salary range $140,000 - $187,000 depending on skills and experience + superannuation.
