About the Role

Kickstart your midwifery career in Hawke’s Bay, where you will be supported to grow, learn, and thrive. Our 12-month MFYP programme (0.8 FTE, potential for flexibility to 0.6 FTE) offers hands on experience across a variety of settings - from tertiary hospitals to primary and rural maternity units.

This role provides an excellent opportunity for recent graduates looking to begin their career in a supportive clinical environment. You will work alongside experienced midwives, Lead Maternity Carers, medical staff, and the wider multidisciplinary team, gaining valuable experience across a range of maternity settings. Ongoing professional development, clinical support, and learning opportunities are available to help you build confidence and develop your midwifery practice.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Our Maternity Service provides comprehensive maternity care for women and whānau across Hawke's Bay. Based at Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Hastings, you will join a passionate and supportive team of midwives, doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals committed to delivering safe, compassionate, and whānau centred care.

About you

As a Staff Midwife, you will bring:

  • Registration as a Midwife with the Midwifery Council of New Zealand and a current practising certificate, or be eligible for registration in New Zealand
  • New graduate midwives are encouraged to apply
  • A commitment to providing safe, woman centred care and achieving positive outcomes for women, babies, and whānau
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills
  • A willingness to learn, develop professionally, and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Sound clinical judgement, problem solving skills, and personal accountability
  • A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally safe maternity care
  • Passion, enthusiasm, and a genuine desire to support women and whānau throughout their maternity journey
