About the role | Mō te tūranga mahi
As a Senior Solicitor in our Scheme and Corporate team, you will partner with your colleagues in the Legal, Privacy & Ethics function to support business groups across ACC. You will translate challenging legal issues into clear, practical and solutions-focused advice, helping ACC operate lawfully and effectively while contributing to keeping Kiwis safe at work, at home, and everywhere in between.
You will advise on the legislative and regulatory framework that applies to the Accident Compensation Scheme and the Accident Compensation Corporation. This framework includes the Accident Compensation Act 2001, information-sharing laws, and ACC’s public law obligations as a Crown Entity.
The appointing salary for this role is $117,787 - $166,288 based on experience. ACC offers a comprehensive benefits package which at present includes an advantageous superannuation scheme (9% contribution) with features like no mandatory employee contribution, optional life and income protection insurance.

You will bring:
- Significant public law experience and the ability to provide clear, practical, solutions-focused legal advice in complex organisational environments.
- Demonstrated capability to lead specialist legal advice, including advice on statutory schemes, Crown entity powers, privacy and official information.
- A strategic perspective, sound judgement and the ability to focus on material issues while offering practical, solutions-focused advice.
- Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills, with experience working collaboratively across a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience briefing and advising senior leaders.
- Experience supporting quality legal services through professional leadership, coaching, mentoring or peer review.
- Experience working with technical experts. Experience in highly regulated, insurance, health or Crown entity environments would be an advantage.
- Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and strong cultural and social awareness. Experience in applying Te Tiriti principles in legal or policy settings, would be an advantage.
- An LLB, at least seven years’ post-qualification experience in a relevant legal role, and a current New Zealand Law Society practising certificate or eligibility to hold one.
- Initiative, self-motivation, strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- You must hold New Zealand work rights at the time of application.
