You’ll lead audit and assurance engagements from planning through to completion, build trusted client relationships and work closely with our Directors and Managers to deliver high-quality outcomes. You’ll also review work, coach developing auditors and contribute to a collaborative and high-performing team environment.

With exposure to clients across the commercial, not-for-profit, public and education sectors, you’ll enjoy meaningful variety, technical challenge and opportunities to broaden your experience.

This is a full-time position of 37.5 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a varied portfolio of audit and assurance engagements from planning through to completion.
  • Build trusted relationships with clients and maintain clear, proactive communication throughout each engagement.
  • Apply sound technical knowledge and professional judgement to deliver accurate, high-quality audit outcomes.
  • Coordinate engagement workflows, timelines and team resources to ensure work is delivered efficiently.
  • Review audit work and provide clear, constructive feedback to team members.
  • Coach, mentor and support the development of junior and intermediate auditors.
  • Work closely with Directors and Managers to identify issues, manage risk and deliver exceptional client service.
  • Contribute to improvements in audit quality, team capability and internal processes.
  • Support the continued growth and success of BDO Manawatū’s Audit & Assurance practice.

You’ll be an ambitious and commercially minded audit professional who is ready to take greater ownership of engagements, client relationships and team development.

You’ll likely bring:

  • A completed or nearly completed CAANZ qualification, or an equivalent professional accounting qualification.
  • At least four years’ experience within a public practice audit environment and experience working within a New Zealand chartered accountancy firm.
  • Strong technical audit knowledge and the ability to apply sound professional judgement.
  • Experience leading audit engagements and managing client relationships.
  • The ability to coach, mentor and support the development of other team members.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational capability.
  • A proactive approach, commercial mindset and commitment to continuous improvement.

Why BDO?

At BDO, we’ll make your growth our priority. You’ll join a locally owned and supportive firm where you can build meaningful client relationships, develop your leadership capability and make a visible contribution to the continued growth of our Audit & Assurance practice.

In return, you’ll enjoy:

  • Genuine opportunities to progress your audit and leadership career within a growing firm.
  • Close collaboration with experienced Directors and Managers.
  • Exposure to a diverse client portfolio across a range of sectors.
  • Flexible working arrangements that support work-life balance.
  • Competitive remuneration and recognition for your contribution.
  • Ongoing professional development and leadership training.
  • Support toward your CAANZ qualification and access to extensive technical resources.
  • A paid Accountant’s Day on the Tuesday following King’s Birthday weekend.
  • Regular social events and a supportive, collaborative team culture.
  • The benefits of a locally owned firm backed by the resources and opportunities of the global BDO network.
  • Opportunities to build lasting client relationships and contribute to the Manawatū community.

If you’re an experienced auditor ready to take the next step in your leadership journey with a firm that values its people, invests in development and builds lasting client relationships, we’d love to hear from you.
