SafetyNet · 51-200 employees
What the role involves
- Managing asset accounting
- Building financial models
- Strengthening controls
What they ask for
Senior-level asset accounting experience including capitalisation, depreciation, disposals; advanced financial modelling (TCO, NPV, cash-flow); asset register maintenance; relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent; New Zealand residency or valid work visa.
About the job
Ready to take ownership of a complex asset portfolio and turn high-quality financial information into better investment decisions?
We are looking for an experienced Senior Asset Accountant to provide hands-on asset accounting, lifecycle support and financial insight across SafetyNet’s critical communications portfolio.
Reporting to the Commercial & Finance Director, you will lead the integrity of our fixed-asset records and accounting processes, from capitalisation and depreciation through to impairment, disposals and write-offs. You will also build financial models, strengthen controls and provide clear, decision-ready advice on asset investment, renewal and replacement.
This role will give you the opportunity to:
- Own the timely and accurate capitalisation of assets, including reconciling work in progress and resolving exceptions.
- Oversee depreciation settings and runs, analyse movements and variances, and support useful-life and impairment decisions.
- Prepare well-evidenced asset disposal and write-off cases, secure approvals and ensure accurate ledger treatment.
- Build TCO, NPV, cash-flow and sensitivity models to inform invest, defer, renew and replace decisions.
- Maintain a complete, accurate and auditable asset register, supported by disciplined reconciliations and data-quality checks.
- Partner with delivery teams, suppliers and finance colleagues to identify asset risks and develop a prioritised replacement pipeline.
- Provide concise reporting on asset performance, financial impacts, work in progress, disposals and lifecycle risks for finance and governance reporting.
- Improve asset accounting systems, workflows and reporting so information is efficient, traceable and decision-ready.
What you will bring
You will be a senior-level accounting or asset finance professional who combines strong technical control with practical commercial judgement. You are comfortable working across financial data, operational information and stakeholder relationships, and you can translate complex asset issues into clear recommendations.
- Strong experience in fixed-asset accounting, including capitalisation, depreciation, and disposals.
- Advanced financial modelling and analytical skills, including TCO, NPV, cash-flow and sensitivity analysis.
- Experience maintaining asset registers, reconciliations, controls and audit-ready documentation.
- A sound understanding of valuation, useful lives, lease economics and total cost of ownership.
- Confidence working with finance systems, asset management systems and ERP or FMIS interfaces.
- The ability to communicate clearly with senior stakeholders, delivery teams, suppliers, auditors and advisors.
- A relevant tertiary qualification in finance, accounting, asset management, engineering or property, or equivalent experience.
- A practical, collaborative approach, strong attention to detail and a focus on continuous improvement.
