About the job

At Trade Me, we're about connecting Kiwi to create the life they want. Whether it's the big things like finding a home, a job, a car or growing their business, or the smaller things, like finding that right bedside table or parting ways with some old stuff. At Trade Me our vision is to be the place where Kiwi look first.

Trade Me is moving key parts of our business onto a new modular platform. In this 12-month fixed-term role, you'll own the quality of the new platform's data end to end, from how it's modelled and generated to the reports the business relies on. Sitting day-to-day with our Insights Analysts and reporting into the Data Platform squad, you'll build dbt models, verify data in Snowflake and coordinate impact assessments across squads

Here is what you can expect from this role:

  • Own the new platform's data quality end to end, vertical by vertical.
  • Bring a business and vertical lens to how the platform's data is modelled, working with analytics and data engineers
  • Check that reports and metrics built on the data are accurate and give the business what it needs
  • Build and change dbt models yourself, and work alongside analytics engineers on the core platform models
  • Coordinate data impact assessments across squads, from agreeing test scenarios to verifying results in Snowflake
  • Make the method scale across multiple squads so it doesn't depend on any one person
  • Partner early with platform engineers and Technical Product Owners to guide modelling before things are built
  • Identify where the platform's event-driven data can unlock new value beyond legacy reporting
  • Support the platform's Technical Product Owners with insights and analysis to track rollout success
  • Learn each vertical alongside our Insights Analysts and share what you learn

What you will bring to our team:

  • 5+ years in analytics engineering, data analytics or a related role, with material time working directly with software engineering teams
  • Strong hands-on dbt and SQL-first dimensional modelling experience, and verifying data in Snowflake
  • Experience with event-driven or product-generated data and how application changes flow through to metrics and reporting
  • A track record owning data quality or testing outcomes across teams, including defining test scenarios and verifying results
  • Experience in a business-facing insights or analytics function, partnering with stakeholders on metrics and reporting
  • Strong insights instinct and a quality mindset that goes beyond technically correct data
  • Comfort working with software engineers, including how they think about testing and where a check belongs in the stack
  • A self-organising doer and coordinator operating at a senior level, who knows when to pull in experts and stays pragmatic about scale
  • Clear communication across engineers, analysts and product owners, and experience coordinating multiple squads in an agile environment
  • An AI-first way of working, using AI-assisted development (Claude Code) daily, and curiosity about Snowflake's AI capabilities
