Security Specialist - Intermediate

Trade Me serves millions of Kiwi across NZ, making security and compliance critical. As an Intermediate Security Specialist, you will support safety at speed across our tech ecosystem. You’ll collaborate with Dev and Ops teams to triage vulnerabilities, manage security risks, perform log analysis, and maintain monitoring tooling. You’ll work with an innovative, award-winning team that leverages cutting-edge AI tools to solve security challenges.

This is a 8 month fixed term role to cover a parental leave

Here is what you can expect from this role:

• Support Dev and Ops teams across Trade Me to identify, assess, and manage security and compliance risks (e.g., PCI DSS).
• Maintain and tune security monitoring and protective tooling (Splunk, Tenable, CrowdStrike, Signal Sciences, GCP, AWS) to reduce noise and enhance detection.
• Participate in operational security activities, incident response, tabletop exercises, threat modelling, and on-call rotation.
• Work alongside an industry-leading security team operating 2–3 years ahead in AI tool integration and automation.
• Assist with assurance, tool configuration hygiene, and compliance reviews across the organization.

What you will bring to our team:

• 3+ years of hands-on experience in a dedicated Security role or relevant technology/compliance background.
• Practical familiarity with vulnerability management, security monitoring, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP), and CI/CD SDLC processes.
• A passionate, open-minded attitude and eagerness to learn and work alongside advanced AI tools (like Claude).
• Strong communication, listening, and relationship-building skills to translate technical security concepts to diverse teams.
• Excellent workflow prioritization, organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Post-secondary/tertiary qualifications or certifications (CISSP, CISM, CISA) are desirable but not required.
