At our heart, Whānau Āwhina Plunket is a nationwide charity devoted to helping little lives thrive.

We have the opportunity for an experienced Payroll Leader to lead our small, but experienced team of 3 Payroll Advisors. This is a permanent full-time role, based at our central Wellington office. We also support hybrid working with our team connecting in the office on a Tuesday and Wednesday.

TeWhiwhingamahi | The opportunity

You’ll oversee our fortnightly payroll, coordinating the workload of three Payroll Advisors and approving each pay run to ensure our 1,100 kaimahi (employees) are paid accurately and on time.

Beyond business-as-usual activities, you’ll lead process improvements that increase efficiency and consistency, provide analysis and reporting to support Finance and leadership decisions, and manage escalations involving complex payroll matters.

You’ll foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and accountability, while empowering your team to partner with managers and employees and provide clear, practical payroll advice.

He kōrero mōu| About you

Working as a team is key in how we work; you’ll partner closely with Finance, HR, and managers across the organisation. As an active listener, you will take time to understand the business, wider teams, managers, and your team before guiding and advising on the best solutions. You’ll know how to balance meeting business needs with working within payroll frameworks and legislation.

Experience with TechnologyOne (TechOne) will be a strong advantage but provided you are tech-savvy and proactive, learning a new system shouldn’t be a barrier.

Prior leadership experience is essential for this role. You’ll be an experienced payroll professional with a proven ability to lead and coach colleagues.
