Pain Specialist Chronic Pain ServiceAnaesthetics & Pain Medicine | Counties Manukau Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Counties ManukauWant a new challenge and the opportunity to work with an experienced, supportive multidisciplinary team?Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Counties Manukau is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Pain Specialist / Senior Medical Officer with experience in Pain Medicine to join our Chronic Pain Service.This is an exciting opportunity to work within a friendly, experienced and collaborative multidisciplinary team and contribute to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred pain care across South Auckland.About the RoleThe Chronic Pain Service is part of the Department of Anaesthetics and Pain Medicine and provides specialist assessment and management for patients living with chronic and complex pain.The successful applicant will work as part of an interdisciplinary team of specialist clinicians from medical, nursing and allied health backgrounds, including Anaesthesia, Psychiatry, Musculoskeletal Medicine, Gynaecology, Nursing, Physiotherapy and Psychology.Our team works with patients and their whānau within a biopsychosocial framework, providing:Comprehensive multidisciplinary pain assessmentsIndividualised treatment and management plansPharmacological and non-pharmacological pain managementGroup pain management programmesOngoing education and support for patients and whānauCollaboration with primary care, hospital services and community providersThe service is primarily based at the Manukau Super Clinic, with opportunities to work across other relevant clinical settings, including our inpatient complex pain team for candidates with suitable inpatient pain management experience.This is a part-time opportunity of approximately 20 hours per fortnight, with the potential for the role to be split into two positions for the right candidates.About the TeamYou will join a small, experienced and collegial team that is passionate about improving outcomes for people living with chronic pain.Our multidisciplinary team includes clinicians from:Anaesthesia and Pain MedicinePsychiatryMusculoskeletal MedicineGynaecologyNursingPhysiotherapyPsychologyWe offer a supportive environment with opportunities for teaching, professional development and further training.About YouWe are looking for a Pain Specialist or Senior Medical Officer who is passionate about pain medicine and enjoys working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.You will ideally have:A primary specialist medical qualification in a relevant specialty such as Anaesthesia, Medicine, Surgery, General Practice, Psychiatry or RehabilitationFFPMANZCA or equivalent qualification is preferredVocational registration with the Medical Council of New ZealandA current Annual Practising CertificateExperience or training in chronic and/or complex pain managementKnowledge of contemporary pharmacological approaches to pain managementFamiliarity with non-pharmacological approaches and multidisciplinary pain programmesStrong communication, assessment and clinical decision-making skillsA collaborative and patient-centred approach to carePreference will be given to candidates with current or recent experience working within a specialist pain service.
