About the job

Operational Risk and Compliance Manager

UDC Finance has grown alongside the businesses that have built our country’s economy like transport, forestry, agriculture and manufacturing, and we’re proud to be New Zealand’s finance company. We are one of the largest finance companies operating in the New Zealand market.

We are currently looking for an experienced Operational Risk and Compliance Manager to join our Risk team based at our Auckland CBD Head office location.

The opportunity

Reporting to the Head of Operational Risk and Compliance, you will be a trusted adviser and constructive challenger, embedding UDC’s operational risk, compliance and financial crime frameworks while turning regulatory requirements into practical action. Working closely with leaders and risk owners, you will strengthen assurance, remediation and reporting, build risk capability, and support sustainable growth and fair customer outcomes.

What you would do

  • Embed operational risk, compliance and financial crime frameworks, policies and controls across the business.
  • Advise on incidents, issues, losses, complaints and emerging risks, driving effective root-cause analysis and remediation.
  • Monitor regulatory change and translate new obligations into practical updates to policies, processes and controls.
  • Lead risk-based assurance, control testing, attestations and regulatory reporting, identifying clear improvement opportunities.
  • Deliver insightful reporting on risk indicators, incidents, issues, assurance findings and actions, escalating material or overdue matters.
  • Build risk capability and culture through practical guidance, learning and constructive challenge, while coaching team members and supporting a high-performing function.

Preferred Qualifications

A tertiary qualification in business, law, risk or a related discipline would be advantageous. Relevant professional certification in risk, compliance, financial crime, assurance or analytics would also be valued.

What you will bring

Ideally you have:

  • at least five to seven years’ experience in operational risk, compliance, financial crime, audit, legal or regulatory change, ideally within financial services.
  • strong knowledge of New Zealand financial services obligations, including consumer lending, AML/CFT, sanctions, fraud and privacy.
  • proven experience developing and embedding risk frameworks, policies, controls and assurance activities, supported by strong analytical, investigation and reporting skills.
  • a credible and collaborative communication approach to influence, coach and provide constructive challenge at all levels, with sound judgement and a commitment to fair customer outcomes.
  • a highly organised, proactive and delivery-focused work ethic, with proficiency in Microsoft 365, Teams and the effective use of AI-enabled tools and productivity measures.
