We have an exciting Fixed term opportunity for an Obstetrics & Gynaecology Medical Specialist to join our team at Christchurch Women's Hospital.

Christchurch Women's Hospital is located on the central Christchurch Hospital campus, alongside Hagley Park and within walking distance of the central city. It is a busy tertiary referral centre with approximately 6,000 births each year. Our comprehensive service includes Maternal Fetal Medicine alongside a large and varied gynaecology service. We are also the regional referral centre for Gynaecological Oncology for Te Waipounamu, the South Island.

Our Senior Medical Officer team is predominantly generalist, providing care across both Obstetrics and Gynaecology and working collaboratively with a broad multidisciplinary team.

As an Obstetrics & Gynaecology Medical Specialist, you will contribute across the breadth of the service, providing high-quality specialist care to women and whānau. The role includes inpatient and acute care, outpatient clinics and participation in the full SMO on-call roster.

Your clinical responsibilities may include:

  • General

and high-risk antenatal care;

  • Acute

obstetric and gynaecological services;

  • Colposcopy

and outpatient procedural gynaecology;

  • Inpatient

specialist care and clinical decision-making;

  • Supervision,

teaching and support of junior medical staff and trainees; and

  • Contribution

to clinical governance, quality improvement and the ongoing development of our service. We particularly welcome applicants with a strong obstetric focus. There is scope to further develop areas of special interest within the service, including early pregnancy, preterm birth and high-risk obstetrics.

As part of our commitment to equitable, patient and whānau-centred care, there may also be opportunities to contribute to outreach services, supporting access to specialist care closer to home for communities across Waitaha.

Christchurch Women's Hospital is an accredited training centre for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG), with both training and non-training registrars. As a Senior Medical Officer, you will play an important role in teaching, supervision and supporting the development of our future specialist workforce.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Hold

specialist qualifications in Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

  • Be

eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand;

  • Have

broad experience across Obstetrics and Gynaecology, with confidence managing acute and complex presentations;

  • Be

committed to providing safe, equitable and patient and whānau-centred care;

  • Work

effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team;

  • Have

an interest in teaching, supervision and supporting junior medical staff; and

  • Be
