Lead Innovative Cardiology Care and Help Shape the Future of Advanced Nursing Practice

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we're building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced advanced nurse to join our Cardiology Service.

This role has been developed to support people living with cardiac conditions, including heart failure and other complex cardiovascular conditions. Working within an interdisciplinary model of care, you'll provide advanced clinical assessment, treatment planning, care coordination, patient education, and ongoing management of patients with complex health needs.

The position includes outpatient clinics, supporting patients at risk of admission or readmission, workforce development, clinical leadership, and contributing to innovative models of care that improve outcomes across South Canterbury. You'll work closely with senior clinical staff and multidisciplinary teams to promote health, prevent disease progression, and support high-quality coordinated care for people living with cardiac conditions.

We Want to Hear From You

While this role has a primary focus on Cardiology, we recognise that advanced nursing skills are transferable across many specialties and that every clinician brings a unique combination of experience, expertise, and interests.

Applicants with cardiology experience will be highly regarded. However, we also encourage applications from Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists with prescribing, and experienced senior nurses who are progressing towards advanced practice roles and may have developed their expertise in other specialty areas.

As part of our CNS Multi-Condition Hub, there may be opportunities to shape the role around the successful applicant's experience and interests. We also have other advanced practice nursing opportunities within the service, and applicants interested in broader practice opportunities, additional hours, or a combination of specialty areas are encouraged to discuss this with us during the recruitment process.

Please note that NP intern pathways require a minimum of 0.6FTE employment, if this is you, please review the NP intern opportunity co-advertised within the Diabetes service

For the right person, we are committed to supporting professional development, mentorship, education, and Nurse Practitioner pathways. If you're interested in advanced practice nursing and making a difference for the South Canterbury community, we'd love to hear from you.

About the Team / Service / Location

The Multi-Condition Hub delivers person-centred care to people living with complex and long-term conditions. Working closely with primary care, hospital services, allied health, and community providers, the team supports innovative and integrated approaches to healthcare delivery.

Based in Timaru, you'll enjoy affordable housing, excellent schools, short commute times, and easy access to beaches, lakes, mountains, skiing, cycling, and hiking. South Canterbury offers the perfect balance of meaningful work and lifestyle.
