Permanent Full Time (1.0 FTE)Based at Auckland City HospitalCompetitive salary and benefits, as well as a supportive workplace and managementHealth New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.About the RoleWe are inviting applications for the Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) / Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) position in the Immunology Department, Serology Unit, LabPLUS, Auckland City Hospital | Te-Toka Tumai.The laboratory uses a diverse range of manual, semi-automated and fully automated methodologies, including:Indirect immunofluorescenceEnzyme-linked immunosorbent assaysMultiplex/Luminex assaysLine immunoassaysRadio immunoassays Indirect haemagglutinationImmunochromatographic testingFlocculation assaysThe service continues to evolve, with automated digital microscopy using AI triaging software scheduled for implementation in 2027, providing opportunities to contribute to verification, implementation and service development in the future.This role provides diagnostic testing M-F 0800-1700, 8h per day with a small amount of flexibility regarding starting and finishing times negotiable.After training, the successful candidate will be expected to participate on the call roster which operates Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays 0900-1800. Visit our website www.labplus.co.nz for more information.For more information on living and working in Auckland click hereAbout youThe preferred candidate will be a NZ registered Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) and you will hold a current NZ Annual Practicing Certificate.Ideally, applicants should have a minimum two years' practical experience within a diagnostic immunology or serology laboratory. Applicants with 1-2 years practical experience after obtaining a relevant pathology laboratory science qualification will be considered.A postgraduate qualification in Immunology is desirable but not essential for the role.A significant component of this role involves indirect immunofluorescence(IIF) testing for autoimmune disease diagnostics. Applicants should be able to demonstrate experience in performing and interpreting IIF assays, including recognition of relevant immunofluorescence patterns.Applicants should also be able to demonstrate practical experience using a range of manual, semi-automated and fully automated serology testing methodologies.The successful candidate will have:Strong knowledge of analytical, quality assurance and quality control processes.Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality diagnostic services.Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.The ability to prioritise competing demands and effectively switch between tasks.The ability to remain focused and organised in a busy, fast-paced environment.A flexible and proactive approach to work.Working at Health New ZealandHealth New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand.
