Te Pae Christchurch is New Zealand's premier convention centre, hosting some of the country's largest conferences, exhibitions, business events, and international experiences. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Audio-Visual to lead the strategic and operational delivery of our audio-visual services and systems.

This is a unique opportunity for an AV professional who enjoys balancing hands-on technical leadership with people management, commercial decision-making, and stakeholder engagement.

About the Role

Reporting to the Director of Operations, you will be responsible for the leadership, performance, and continuous improvement of Te Pae's audio-visual function. You will oversee the delivery of exceptional AV outcomes across a diverse calendar of conferences, exhibitions, meetings, and live events while ensuring our significant AV infrastructure remains innovative, reliable, and fit for purpose.

You will lead a team of AV professionals and manage relationships with outsourced service providers, ensuring the highest standards of service delivery, technical excellence, and client satisfaction.

This role requires someone equally comfortable discussing system architecture and troubleshooting complex technical issues as they are coaching team members, presenting business cases and engaging with clients and stakeholders.

What You'll Be Responsible For

• Leading the day-to-day and strategic management of the AV department.

• Managing AV operations across major conferences, exhibitions, and events.

• Driving service excellence and client satisfaction.

• Leading and developing a high-performing AV team.

• Managing AV suppliers and service partners.

• Overseeing maintenance, replacement, and procurement of AV assets.

• Leading AV system enhancement projects and technology upgrades.

• Supporting venue revenue growth through innovative AV solutions and pricing strategies.

• Ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements and industry best practices.

• Contributing to annual planning, budgeting, and continuous improvement initiatives.

We are looking for an experienced AV leader who combines technical expertise with strong commercial and people leadership skills.

You will bring:

Technical Expertise

• Extensive experience in professional audio-visual environments.

• Strong knowledge of converged network-based AV systems.

• Practical experience with:

• Dante

• Q-SYS

• Crestron

• Proven experience managing AV system upgrades, installations, and lifecycle planning.

• Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Experience working within complex operational or venue environments.

Leadership & Management Capability

• Proven experience leading and developing technical teams.

• Strong coaching, mentoring, and performance management skills.

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and stakeholders.

• Experience managing external suppliers and service delivery partners.

• Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, pricing, and commercial decision-making.

• Excellent communication and relationship management skills.

Ideally You Will Also Have

• Experience within convention centres, venues, entertainment, events, or hospitality environments.

• Experience working with event management systems such as Momentus.

• A relevant technical qualification and/or significant leadership experience in an AV management role.
