Station Support Officers (SSO’s) are the very heart and soul of a Police Station.

The primary responsibility of the SSO is to provide high-quality customer service at the Front Counter of Kapiti Police Station. Every day, you will encounter a range of situations that require professionalism, respect, empathy and in a positive approach. You will welcome members of the public into the station, ensuring their enquiries are understood and handled appropriately.

This role requires someone with strong customer service skills, excellent attention to detail, and a proactive, can-do attitude.

As a Station Support Officer, you will provide operational and administrational support to Police. This includes, but is not limited to, front counter customer service, data entry, use of Police systems, and file and exhibit management.

The successful applicant will work as part of a team of three SSO’s (one full time & two part time) Monday to Friday, on 8-hour shifts between 0800-1600hrs. This position is one of two SSO’s that work 0.5 on a week on week off basis. You also can relieve for the other SSO’s absences during your rostered week off.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Deal with challenging situations in a customer services environment
  • Manage interactions with the public using professionalism, respect and empathy.
  • Record complaints, respond to enquiries and manage reception duties (including contractor and visitor access.
  • Demonstrate strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask
  • Communicate clearly (written and verbal)
  • Use computer systems confidently (e.g. NIA, PROP, Microsoft Office suite).

Utu ā-tau | Salary

This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $70,030 p.a (pro rata for 0.5 position) dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
